Wholesome free from 🍏 crumble with chia seeds,

β€’15 Replies

Hi folks,

I often make crumbles as they're so much easier than pastry and needing it to be GF makes them a great choice for me.

I used 5 Bramley apples, some sultanas and chia seeds, topped with GF plain flour with more chia seeds and flaked almonds plus more flaked almonds on top. With GF free flour you want to use a little less butter than with wheat and I only add 35g brown sugar to 175g Flour + 75g organic butter, so for me its part of a balanced diet as I exercise a lot and my BMI is under 20. The chia seeds absorb 10X their volume of moisture so makes stewed fruit even nicer.

And please keep your photo's coming of what you're eating and keep warm and safe everyone as its gone seriously cold here.

Jerry 😊

Wow, Hidden - that Crumble looks fantastic!!! :-) I love the topping - it looks so delicious. :-) Great idea to use chia seeds to absorb some of the moisture and add more nutrients. Yum!

Hi avoid-sugar, you can use coconut flour, it is twice as absorbent as other flour so you use half as much coconut flour. I found this site really useful about baking with coconut flour. thecoconutmama.com/coconut-...

Thanks Jerry. I'll save this one. I may omit almonds since my daughter has a nut allergy.

Thank you and it will be fine without the almonds 😊

looks good to me Jerry πŸ™‚ just wondering what to have with it πŸ€”

Thanks March, I had coconut cream with it 😊 But as Debs says a dollop of custard would go down equally well.

Thanks L_t 😊
