How much?????

Good afternoon! I was told by my orthopaedic consultant that I have 8 stone to lose before I can be considered for the two total knee replacements I require. He is a lovely man...not fat shaming just speaking the truth. The biomechanics of a new knee couldn't cope with any more weight. I have already lost the same three stone about a zillion times over the last few years. Any advice?? And how do I build up my immunity so I don't spend the whole winter unwell and on steroids for my asthma with the inevitable weight gain issues???

Hi dolphinwoman

Welcome to the Healthy eating forum. You said you've lost the same three stone a zillion times over the last few years, so I'm guessing that you do know how to lose weight - maybe participating in some online groups might help? I think the NHS weight loss community might be useful to you - so do have a look, if you want to.

Wishing you success with your goals to lose the weight, so that you can have your operations to replace your knees. Have a look around our forum here - to see what you think, and I hope that you'll let us know how you're getting on.

Zest :-)

I agree with Zest , the Weight Loss NHS community (of which I am also a member) might be a good fit for you. It’s full of supportive people who want to lose weight for life and have good strategies to do this. 8 stones is a lot but not impossible, especially with a positive attitude and a real incentive. Good luck! X

Hi Dolphin,

I just lost 2 1/2 stones since May. I'm doing intermittent fasting, and I have cut out all sugars and all carbs. I'm following a diet similar (but not as strict) as Keto, or the Low-Carb High-fat diet.

Mine is not really those diets, I just eat different than I used to.

Three days a week (sometimes more) I eat only one meal per day. Dinner.

The other days I usually skip breakfast, except on weekends, I will have breakfast.

But, I don't eat carbs from bread, pasta, or rice anymore, nor sugary foods, and cut out processed foods and fast foods too.

This has really helped me drop a lot of weight rather fast, and I am not struggling at all.

----------Typical foods I eat are:

Eggs

Veggies

Cheese

Nuts

Meats

Berries

---------Foods I limit:

Fruit

---------Foods I exclude:

Sugar (including all foods like candy, donuts, cookies, etc)

Fast food

Restaurant food (most has sugars)

Processed food

---------- Drink:

Water

Unsweetened Coffee with Half-n-Half

Unsweetened Tea

I look at carbs and sugars on packages of frozen foods, or canned foods if I do get something canned or frozen or packaged. If the carb levels are high, or if they have added sugars, I avoid them.

I did this because I'm pre-diabetic (Type 2) and I want to reverse diabetes.

I'm like you, I have to lose about 7 stones. I'm 2 1/2 down... and have 4 1/2 more to go!

I was trying to only lose 5 stones originally but now I've changed my mind, and I'm going for a more ideal weight for my body type. So 7 1/2 stones it is.

You can still have a piece of cake at a party, or a couple of slices of pizza if you go out, just really limit those kinds of 'treats' if you want to lose weight.

Don't punish yourself just realize your body is healing, and those things limit the healing process.

Treat vs Health.

Let Health win!
