Why magician Penn Jillette fasts 23 hours a day to maintain his 100-pound weight loss
23 hr a day fast: Why magician Penn Jillette... - Healthy Eating
23 hr a day fast
Hi Nugger, this is very interesting and only eating for one hour in 24 is no mean feat but it worked for Penn, so good for him.
I thought that this sentence was very pertinent:
"All diet is habit. We have the disadvantage of being born in a very rich country with food everywhere. And changing your eating desires takes years."
Coupled with slick advertising its no wonder that obesity is hitting crisis mode.
Interesting article. I like his attitude of don't believe people who say dieting is easy. I noticed he follows a whole food plant based diet as well as fasting, so that may be a big factor in his success too.
I'd love to be able to eat just one meal a day. It would leave me so much time for other things. However I know it would simply be impossible for me. If I'm hungry I get a terrible debilitating headache, which tends to start if I'm a couple of hours overdue for a meal. I have cut down my daily eating window so I consume everything between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. except when I go out to dinner, normally just family birthdays so only a few times a year. Mind you, I've never had the bad habit of snacking in the evening, not because I'm very virtuous, but because I'm a knitter. I recommend anybody who's tempted to eat something while telly-watching to take up a craft like knitting or crochet to keep their hands occupied - you just don't think about food and you end up with some useful items.
Hi Nugger
I really like Penn Jillette - I saw a Penn & Teller Live Show a few years back, and they are so good! I am glad to hear he's lost weight, and is maintaining that weight loss, and it's great to see how he did it, so thank for sharing this article.
