For any of you who eat sprouts, how do you prepare them? I’ve had them in salad is there any other way to eat them?

Yum 😋, Bobbi6!

Place sprouts in sandwiches 🥪 , in wraps 🌯 , in pockets 🥙, atop hot/ warm/ cold dishes 🍲 🍛 🥣 of all kinds and, of course, in salads 🥗 or even all by themselves 🌱 🌱 🌱 as a snack! 😋

Vesatile, tasty, packed with nutrients/ enzymes . . . puts hair on your chest . . . 😳 😂 🤣 . . .

👍👍

To ‘prepare’ (sprout) sprouting seeds, there’s various techniques depending upon the type of seed (alfalfa seeds, mung beans, broccoli seeds, etc.: google.com/search?as_q=vari... .

[Lots of videos demonstrate "How To" sprout: google.com/search?as_q=%22h... , healthunlocked.com/healthye... ]

Good ole ‘dive in & try it’ & experientially learn along the way.

It’s fun. 🤗

[If you’ve little ones 👫 , they may get a kick out of it too!! 😃 ]

Good luck 🍀 , Bobbi6.

Kindly lettuce 🥬 know how you make out! ☺️ 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞

(Welcome, Bobbi6. 🙏 😌 )

If you’re just ‘starting out’, mung beans, are a pretty easy-to-sprout 🌱 bean/ seed . (You may want to hold off acquiring pricey ‘sprouting equipment’ until you get a bit of experience (over time) under your belt to discover what devices (if any) you’ll actually need.

I merely rinse a portion of mung beans, soak them over night in a jar (or wide mouth bottle) & rinse with water 🚰 (& repeat) for a 1 or 2 (or 3) nights (keeping water ‘clean’ 💦 / odor free). It’s fun to see how the beans "SWELL" to double/ triple their size!! 😃 😯

Then, I place the rinsed beans in a mesh colander (allowing air to circulate ♻️ ) in the sink with a clean cloth to cover the top of the colander (the growing sprouts underneath), then rinse, shake, & re-cover sprouting beans periodically & watch 👀 as their ‘tails’ 🐈 grow.

You can eat sprouted beans 🌱 at whatever stage you like:

. . . • after a few nights soak with tiny tadpole tail emerging or

. . . • at medium length tails 🦎 sprouting in colander or

. . . • long tails 🐉 after sprouting in colander over several days.

Whatever suits your tastebuds 👅 .

They store nicely in fridge for several days — if you don’t gobble them all beforehand. 😋

[The only device I’ve purchased (over the years) for sprouting is a mesh/ screen lid that looks like this amazon.com/Masontops-Screen... , which fits over wide-mouthed mason jars I’d already had. No fuss, no muss — nothing fancy 💎 or pricey 💰 .]

Oh . . . Just a heads up, when eating mung bean sprouts, bite down gently because an occasional ‘unsprouted’ bean can be an unpleasant surprise! 😯 Ouch 🦷 .

.

Once you get into a pattern/ cycle ♻️ with growing your sprouts, you learn the timing & quantity to make that will ‘keep you in sprouts’ 🌱 🌱 🌱 . . . without concern of ‘running out’. 😄

.

hi Bobbi, I have eaten them boiled with a roast dinner and gravy.. but mostly I like to eat them boiled or microwaved with a lemon juice and olive oil dressing...

I remember seeing a safety warning about sprouts, so I should probably pass it on, if you're growing sprouts at home:

nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/s...

Just to ask that you make sure to grow them safely :)

No worries. I buy mine at the store.

That's OK, so long as the pack says they're OK to be eaten raw - most bean sprouts are intended to be cooked at home (they don't make that clear though).

Ok

think I got it wrong.. for some reason I took it you meant Brussels Sprouts🙂

we use soy bean sprouts in some stir fry's and in some noodle soups.

Hi Bobbi6

I love sprouts, the green ones called Brussels Sprouts, but I see you mentioned having yours in salads, so I suspect you mean 'Beansprouts' - anyway, I see you've had lots of great suggestions, and I am happy, because I love sprouts, and will be looking at some of them.

Hope you enjoy them.

I prepare them by washing them in cold water and then shoving them in my mouth! Nom Nom Nom!

But, I love them in Pho. Yum!

There's a Pho place where I live that does the best Pho and I can order it without noodles and just extra veggies.

I also love them in spring rolls. I'm going to have to research whether or not I can still make home made spring rolls.... not sure about the wraps on them, but yum on sprouts!

I did follow much of the same instructions as shown on the YT, and this is my experience....

I did not have an unused flower pot so i used a big container with holes - stainless steel and lined it with coffee filter instead of paper towel. And did not have the onion bag. - And rinse them in water not every 3 hours. Did not do it at night.

But OMG the amount of sprouts that came up.

I did soak 1 cup of mung beans over nite and next day used 3/4 of the doubled amount for the above method and about 1/4 for another method putting it in a cheese cloth, only spray watered 2 times a day. All were kept for 6 days.

the cloth method was the usual sprouts but the above method was dense.

I also sprouted Fenugreek following another youtube for sprouting Fenugreek. Good for Diabetes

Came out very well - i just did them in a salad spinner container and used coffee filter again to avoid the seeds from coming out. And i did put a container at the bottom so that the seeds dont get immersed in water.
