Stuck with eating

strongnotskinny93 profile image

Hi guys. I’m desperate to loose weight but at the moment my eating habits are terrible. I need some ideas especially with on the go snacks that I don’t have to heat up as I spend a lot of my working day travelling. I’ve tried looking at recipes and meal plans but I don’t see any I would actually enjoy eating and can afford on a budget I end up eating the same thing most nights and for breakfast due to laziness or lack of inspiration. Can anyone help ?

Hi strongnotskinny93

Welcome to the Healthy eating forum. You mentioned that you've already tried looking at recipes and meal plans - have you had chance to look around our forum yet? We have various Topics and Pinned posts - so worth a look.

There are some posts about Eating on a Budget as well - so hopefully you'll find those ok too. If you put 'search words' in the 'search Healthunlocked' box, then you can find related posts.

Maybe give us an idea of the types of foods you enjoy - and we can suggest some recipes or other things that you might like?

Zest :-)

You seem in a difficult place. Lack of time to think about what eating good food means. I feel for you.

Remember as a base fresh fruit & veg can be eaten raw and so require no cooking and little if any prep. So take some oatcakes, hummus, a dark leafy green salad, some tomatoes and some berries and you have very a very nutritionally complete meal that is hard to beat. You can munch on this with zero cooking and zero prep. You can pick it up at any supermarket, anytime. You will find it very satisfying and filling. And best of all it will reliably help you lose weight steadily.

There are plenty of ways to add variety to this. You could mix some chilli flakes into the hummus to give it a real kick. Add some olives perhaps, or some nuts.

To start the day I always have a large bowl of porridge. Mine usually has a chopped banana in it, but you can add any fruit. Mine is spiced with a lot of black pepper and turmeric - but that is because of my arthritis.

I'm curious about the turmeric. How much do you need daily and how long does it take to see results? Thank you.

I have a half teaspoon daily. This is about moving your diet towards being less inflamatory. If you consume other foods regularly that are flamatory then any amount of turmeric will have no effect. Plant foods in general are anti-inflammatory, so anything you can do to reduce meat/dairy/fish/oils and increase veg/fruit/nuts/seeds/legumes is going to help.
