Eating with friends

Hey,

I have and will always love eating out with friends but it’s been kind of difficult with the whole trying to be healthy thing. Me and my friends enjoy going to McDonald’s ( because it’s cheap and we are all broke college students). My staple is french fries and a McFlurry but I was wondering does anyone have advice on how to still be able to go out with friends but not eat at those bad places?

HI Frsussed

Pre-planning could help - and maybe you could look at an online menu for a place you fancy going to with your friends, then you could have a look through the menu and pre-select things, so you know what you'll be having when you get there.

Are you in the US? I'm going to base my answer on US!

If you want to get together for an affordable meal, I'd highly recommend holding a pot luck! They were really popular amongst my friends, and that way you know you're making something you can eat.

McDonalds do offer salads, if you hold off on the dressing, it's healthy enough!

Chipotle would also be a great place, if you go for a rice bowl instead of a wrap.

A chink in my brain says that a McChicken salad has more calories than a McBurger! Perhaps that is with the dressing!

Yes, that's due to the dressing (full of sugar and oil) - but I think after that whole thing came to light, they did make an effort to reduce the calories in their salads.

How about eating some healthy food before you go out. That way you'll be less hungry and be satisfied with whatever small healthy option you can find when with your friends, or just have a juice.

Exactly right. I eat three plant-based meals a day until I am full and if I go out not bothered if others eat in front of me because I am satiated. They worry, but I don't. If there is something appropriate I will join them - just to be sociable, but there has to be something acceptable.
