Hi Louisethecat, here's a post from last year as April is IBS awareness month and there are links to triggers and many replies which should help.
I know that carbonated drinks and artificial sugars like aspartame are triggers for many with IBS and a lot of sufferers find a FODMAP diet helpful.
So here's a couple of links:

Good luck and do let us know how you get on as you're not alone with IBS as we have many members with IBS.
Jerry 😊
Eww, aspartame.
Aspartame is like the strainings from the devil's jock-strap :).
it's awful stuff and through what I have read about aspartame, it can cause a multitude of health problems including tumours/brain cancer.
As somebody who used to have a terrible junk food diet which included gallons of fizzy drinks, which included aspartame, I would not be surprised one bit if aspartame and all the refined sugar included was the root cause for my brain tumours.
Hi,
My mum used to have IBS... USED to... until she took charcoal tablets years ago and she has never suffered with it since.
Hi Louise
Have you worked out if you have any particular foods that trigger your problems?
I have found the Low FODMAPs diet to be helpful for improving the symptoms of IBS. I have to avoid the onion family, legumes and cabbage. The Monash University developed the plan, which can be helpful for some people.
Hi Louise,
I used to suffer from IBS, and after months of problems with the help of a naturopath found out the root cause of my issues was gluten.. now that doesn't mean it would be same for you, but seeing a dietician is definitely a step in the right direction. The person I saw was called Dr. Farnoush and she was quite helpful, can find her through here ndmedic.com if you're in the GTA, if not, make sure the specialist you see is registered because if not, you may not get the best results. I think there is a link to search for registered ND's or dieticians, where you can see wether they'r registered or not. Btw, after suspecting I had a gluten problem, I stopped intaking all gluten immediately, but to confirm I did had a gluten allergy, I had to go back on eating gluten, which brought back all my IBS symptoms but even worse... Wasn't the best experience but I guess it had to be done. I've read an interesting journal article about the link between IBS and gluten sensitivity, if you like to read about it: jnmjournal.org/journal/view...
Good luck!

I think there are a lot of success stories with a whole food plant based diet. If you want any more references let me know.
Did your doctor run any tests (blood test and stool test?)
Is the IBS your only symptom, or do you have anything else going on?
I'm asking, because my OH was diagnosed with IBS that turned out to be coeliac disease, and I was diagnosed with IBS that turned out to be thyroid disease, so I'm always a bit skeptical of a diagnosis unless they run tests...
Hi I’ve had gerd & headaches, tiredness & been on ppis for years then started having sneezing fits and being a bit sick after food and dull ache in right lower side so went for ultrasound they found fatty liver (I’m overweight). I was previously diagnosed with hiatus hernia and Barrett’s during one camera down but the next one they said it was gone. So after all this the Specialist diagnoses IBS which I’d never thought of tbh.
