Hi sophw02
Are you looking to lose weight yourself? I think that most diets are effective at losing weight, and there have been some studies on the effectiveness of them - e.g. this article looks at some of the popular diets:

Personally, I found the structure of the NHS 12 week plan to be helpful for my own weight loss.
The NHS weight loss forum has lots of supportive groups and regular weigh-ins too - all are free and very welcoming. So do have a look, if you're interested.

I think the best thing you can do, is to work on eating a nutrient dense, gut health diet.
18 months ago, I tried to lose some weight, but it wasn't shifting. After 4 months, my OH lost about 3 stone, and I lost about 6lbs - I ate less than him, and went to the gym 3 times a week more than him.
Out of exasperation, I went to a nutritionist. It turned out I had a leaky gut, and it resulted in thyroid problems. We started working to heal my gut issues, and the weight melted off. I lost 5 stone in 14 months.
I would recommend Clever Guts or the Gut Makeover recipe books
