Can anybody please shed some light on this information I was given about having to soak nuts before you eat them, is this true? App nuts are poisonous to our system so need to soak them. I don’t really believe it. Or I would of been very ill from all the nuts iv eaten.

Hi MMAndrea52

Personally I don't soak nuts before consuming them. Or very rarely anyway. But I know that some people prefer to soak them, because of wanting to ensure that they absorb all the nutrients from them, and for other reasons such as wishing to aid their digestion.

I freeze my nuts, to keep them fresh, and just use them straight from the freezer - I regularly have almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts and cashew nuts like that, and haven't had any difficulties in consuming them without soaking them.

There's a lot of information online and some detailed articles about the benefits of soaking them though, so you might want to have a look.

Whilst I enjoy nuts, I do try not to 'over-eat' them - because I guess that any over-consumption of anything can lead to potential discomfort - from eating too much.

Hope you are enjoying your day.

Zest :-)

Thanks, I only eat 2 Brazil nuts per day, for the Selenium, and I don't eat more than that (Brazil nuts) as it's not good to overeat them. I love most kind of nuts really - they are very tasty. :-)

NOT TRUE. They taste much better as they are. I do soak Almond some time for 10 minutes or so to make them little softer.

Soaking nuts are good.

1) removes phytic acid

2) washes away some antienzymes so their digestion becomes easy.

Hi thanks for that. I only eat 2 Brazil nuts per day tho to help convert T4 to T3

I used to enjoy eating almonds (not exactly sure why in hindsight) when I was a little younger but stopped eating. Suramo explains well. My upper GI doesn't 't like something in almonds. Do I like to soak and eat them? I don't see how phytic acid would disappear by soaked in water overnight. "Soaking beans does not make phytic acid disappear, it only reduces it by about 16 – 21%." I wouldn't want to eat soggy almonds, either.

It's likely that I don't like it that much. But if you wouldn't mind that, then it's worth soaking.

Soaking nuts is fine and critical if you are going to make your own milk from them. I have so few I don't see any real need.
