Yes, I've read about the DASH diet before - there's a website (National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute) here which has some good descriptions of it, if you're interested:

I've heard good things about it, and as its sponsored by the NIH free of some of the commercial bias of others diets.
However, I do remember reading (don't have reference right now) that many of the researchers behind it believe a low oil vegan aka whole food plant based diet would be better - they just didn't believe many people would follow it, hence the DASH diet does allow some meat.
It's not really anything new : it's basically the Ornish diet. Dr Michael Greger (who IMO is a complete fraud) promotes a similar one with his books and whatnot.
If you enjoy eating very plain vegetarian food then it may work for you, but there's no evidence that it's a particularly good way of losing weight or enhancing overall health.
I disagree with some of this article, but if you'd like to know why these diets are popular:
