Many years ago, my wife & myself went to the Hare Krishna home in Watford, the one donated to them by George Harrison (Beatles.)
We ate lunch there and I have to say it was the most beautiful and tasteful vegetarian meal I have ever had the experience of tasting and thoroughly enjoying.
Does anyone know the kinds of foods/recipes they use?
Thanks.

Hi Dickydon welcome to the forum and a Hare Krisna diet is a lacto vegetarian diet excluding fish meat and eggs but including dairy.
If you say what the meal was we can come up with a recipe. We have vegetarian and vegan Topics so please check them out.
I can’t remember as it was a few years back and my wife has since passed away so can’t ask her as she would have remembered. I’ll try and find out and get back to you. I remember hearing something about they only use vegetables that grow above the ground.
Hey I'm sorry that your wife passed away. And you are right they only seem to eat home grown veg that grow above the soil. So I hope that you find what you are looking for. We also have an LCHF and Diabetic Topic section as you're a member of DRWF.
I'd see what happens after you email them thanks to Kai.
Never thought about asking the doc. I’m sort of lone wolf really and don’t go down the do’s n don’ts route. Suppose it means less insulin with their diet...
Tescos fresh salmon with chilis fried up in some olive oil. Tescos frozen mixed veg, and a few slices of sourdough bread n butter and a mug of earl grey tea, no milk. was delicious.
I really don’t know, they’re only small slices of the Tesco’s artisan Sourdough bread about 4” by 2half” I use butter and not spreads as they’re scientifically been proven to be really bad stuff. Breakfast I’ll have 4-6 of those slices, scrambled eggs (3) some salmon slices and I’m done for most of the day with all that. I’ll only have cereal with lacto free milk if my sugars are aiming low.
Depending on the brand and amount of slices you have, the carbs. for the bread may be over 35 or 40 carbs. on its own. Salmon and eggs/meat have no carbs..😀👍

Thanks Agoodenough, I’ll check them out. Must admit, I like all foods: vegetarian, meat but not too much mainly chicken (halal) seafood apart from prawns...
Just had a reply from the Krishna temple in Watford, copied and pasted below:
Unfortunately there is not a specific menu that we consistently use.
However, if you look on the internet for ISKCON recipes, you will find a number of websites that offer guidance in how to prepare the types of meals you would have had here which Im certain would have consisted of rice, dahl, and probably a couple of different sabzi`s (Mixed vegetable curries) as well as chapatis or pooris (Breads).
It was interesting. I’m not great with cooking as I’m on my own now and prob don’t eat enough of what I should be eating. I just don’t have the enthusiasm to cook different things.
I never really make a salad per-se, but will have some of the items on my plate anyway: tomato, cucumber, carrot. As I live on my own, I don’t have the motivation to stand there preparing foods as though it were for a family of five, so all the rules & regs go out of the window and my eating times are not centred around certain times of the day either. But I do eat a variety of food that would deem to be healthy. I never have tv dinner type frozen foods, pizzas or takeaway stuff, but cook fresh usually fish, with some frozen mixed veg, avocado, dollop of homous and some bread n butter. I only use olive oil or butter for frying and generally avoid potato & rice. My diet may be boring to most people but I enjoy it. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke.
That’s a very interesting article Jerry. I also feel we need to be far more grateful and appreciative of everything that God has given us naturally to eat and enjoy and is there for the taking and with a big heartfelt THANKS too.
