Hi MrJoshua ,
Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. Have you seen the "Healthy eating" pages from NHS Choices? They are quite useful, and there's lots of information there on healthy eating:
nhs.uk/livewell/healthy-eat...
Also, I think the Change4Life app is quite helpful for reducing sugar and suggesting good swaps, so worth a look.
Have a look at our Healthy eating recipes and meal ideas - in the Topics section too - and I hope you'll enjoy participating here and maybe sharing some of your own meal ideas and whatever you want to share.

It is not easy to give up on sugar, cakes etc but it is achievable. I used to eat sweets and biscuits every day but I don't now - I just have them as an occasional treat. I stopped buying sweets so I didn't have the temptation in the house and replaced biscuits with fruit, nuts or oatcakes with cheese or peanut butter.
I really craved sweets at first as I used to eat a mint after each meal, but if I hadn't got any in the house, I couldn't eat them! I didn't want to replace them with sugar free as I avoid all artificial sweeteners. Now I don't even think about eating them. I still eat biscuits if I'm in a meeting and they are available, but that is only occasionally, rather than every day.
Have a look at the occasions when you used to eat the things you want to give up and see if you actually need to eat at these times or if you are just eating out of habit. If you are hungry, try healthier alternatives. It does take a while to get used to a new way of eating, but it's worth it - good luck!
If such foods are in your home I can guarantee they will end up in your stomach. Clear your cupboards of ALL tempting foods and learn to completely avoid those aisles at the supermarket.
Sadly I have to have such foods in the house due to the kids and my wife. I can how ever resist as I've done this with other things I've given up.
Swap your usual treats for healthier options. I eat organic dark chocolate every day which has health benefits, see my post on theobromine.
When I need a sugar fix, I eat a medjool date which are high in minerals, including magnesium which is good for reducing sugar cravings, & they're low GI for something so sweet. You might be able to convert your family to these things, too.
