No dairy... but can't give up Greek Yogurt!

Hi guys! This is my first post here. I joined to ask the community if anyone has felt the same way as I have. I have horrible digestion issues when I eat meat, bread, pasta, burgers, ice cream... ya know, normal American things! Anyways, the past few months I have tried to go vegetarian and semi-vegan... and I have felt GREAT! But for some reason I can't go full vegan because I am OBSESSED with greek yogurt. I bought a probiotic (to keep the healthy bacteria alive) yet somehow I don't feel like it works as well as greek yogurt does (I buy FAGE). When I don't eat greek yogurt for a few days.. I just start to feel horrible and have a really heavy feeling. Do any vegans on here take a probiotic that they feel works? Or anyone that also feels this way?

White Mountain brand Bulgarian style yogurt (probiotic, and plain) is delicious! They have it in Organic- “yes please!” Or non organic. Whole milk, and low fat choices.

It’s so good! Made in Austin Texas.

Also you can make your own kefir. The pasteurized kind they sell at the market is delicious, but not really that beneficial. I’m going to buy some live culture ‘grains’ and start making my own.

Do you have a Whole Foods in your area?

Not sure where you live... but just saying there are other tangy delicious yogurts besides Greek style.

😋

Have you gone gluten free? You really ought to give that a try, friend.

Good luck!

'Hidden' means the person has decided to 'unfollow' or 'leave' the community. :-( I hope they might come back.

Hi, welcome to the community!

I’m no expert but from my personal experience everyone is different and I have learnt to listen to my body. It tells me what it wants and what it doesn’t.

The heavy stuff like breads and meats might be a bit too hard for your body to digest. Maybe just keep eating healthy and what your body is asking for.

It can take anywhere between one to two months to feel 100% once big adjustments have been made to your diet. Maybe your body won’t need Greek yoghurt once its adjusted fully and you won’t get the heavy feeling when you leave it out.

A few days does not seem long enough for your gut bacteria to change that much. Maybe it is something else?

Excellent other sources of probiotics are sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi or any fermented foods. These need to be live not pasteurised.

Hi there

Kefir would be a good thing for you to try as you can make it using water and not milk.

I drink kefir every day which is beneficial to digestion. I ferment mine with organic dairy milk. I’ve posted kefir info several times.

The same websites sell water kefir grains, too. This can be grown with water & maple syrup, if you avoid honey,or with any plant milk or dilute fruit juice.
