CARBS?

I've been chasing health issues for many years and feel i have been badly let down by the medical profession, being unhelpfully described by my GP as "a diagnostic conundrum!" Symptoms include, fatigue, weakness, brain fog and aching joints and muscles, constipation and bad sleeping. All the usual suspects, celiac, Hypo Thyroid, Vitamin deficiencies, etc., have been ruled out. I've been trying to square the circle myself with various blood tests and getting nowhere. Recently I had a check-up colonoscopy which, of course, involved a gut emptying. Instead of feeling a bit washed out through lack of food, I felt great!! When I got back to my usual diet, within a week i was back to the symptoms again, with a really debilitating period lasting 7 days.. Thinks!!!! Is it a gut or food problem??

Now I think I have a fairly healthy diet; little or no refined sugars, not much alcohol, lots of oily fish, greens, chicken etc.. That last bad time followed a few days with friends when my usual diet went slightly out of the window. More cereals, potatoes, pasta, crisps and biscuits. CARBS ALL!! So this week non of these and guess what? Energy again!

Question. Has my body got a problem with carbs, has my gut got a problem, or what??

Have you been tested for Lyme?

reelingenious profile image
reelingenious in reply toWilburbudgirl

No, is the answer, probably because other symptoms......rash etc., have never been present.

You don't need to have had a rash - many don't & are positive for Lyme...

Hey I'm in the same boat. Notice that our bodies aren't like everyone else's. I just eat whole foods no animal by products. When I buy cereal or any food I check the ingredients and I have to be able to read what's in it. No crap for me. I've been doing this for like 6 weeks. I tried milk () again and it caused a reaction. Try this and introduce your crap carbs and see how they affect you. Instead of sugar like refined crap just use cane sugar. I could go on but ya the energy is unreal compared to my old diet where it felt like I hit a brick wall.

Lol goto the health food isle in your local grocery store. That's where I shop now. The cereals there are made from beans lol. And real food only. My kids love it and is 100% real not like fruit loops. And like pancakes I still eat but with applesauce as a binding agent instead of eggs. And use an ancient grain flour. I'm not lactose intolerant just discovered how discusting cows milk or chickens eggs really are and what they do to the body. Lol cow milk. Try it if you are like me and always tired and joints hurt. Working for me..

Ya but balance is key. I'm 33 and just diagnosed with vasculitis 1 year ago. I didn't have balance and now I am paying the piper. I bet that lady ate a lot of veg and fruit. Not just eggs. And to each thier own. People like me are sensitive to foods unlike general population. Just watching how they get milk and eggs from animals is disturbing enough for me not eat. And I was a huge meat eater lol. Not no more

So, do you have soy milk?

reelingenious profile image
reelingenious in reply toActivity2004

Lactofree. I've also tried A2 milk as well which is devoid of the protein which troubles some people.

Thanks, don't do lactose as that was one of MY guesses!! Didn't affect anything but kept with it anyway.

"Go to work on an egg!" That was the mantra of the egg marketing board in the 70's I believe.

We are all different. Some of my friends eat what they like and don't have any problems, some have had their appendix removed, not me!! We are all dealt different cards. I'm looking to sort out my maladies, mostly without any help from my GP I have to say. Probably because it might take longer than 10 minutes to question me and do some proper investigation, or cost too much in referrals and investigations.

Anyway I've binned the cereals, beans, root vegetables, bread, crackers and upped the greens and purples and we'll see!

If this proves successful, how will you decide whether it was the legumes, cereals or root veg that were the issue?

I've had a western diet my whole life until now. I had dairy maybe two weeks ago and the next day I had a rash. So no more dairy for me. If I want ice cream I go with cashew ice cream. Way better too. And as for milk. I try to drink unsweetened organic almond milk. Like I said. I just eat to live. No more animals for me. And it's the best feeling in my life. Legumes won't hurt you lol.

Ya I found soy to be controversial. Lol no studies can prove so I stay with fortified almond milk. Dark chocolate almond milk is better tasting than cows chocolate milk lol. It's hard finding things that compare in taste but when you do you hit the jack pot. Like potato chips. I found some that say just potato and sunflower oil and they are better than any name brand like miss Vickies or lays. And cookies as well. Just look for them. Oreo cookies no more. Now I eat k toos. They are exactly like oreos but healthy and taste better lol.

Another big thing I notice is that I don't have black phlegm no more. I've smoked for half my life and doctors all said that was the cause for the discolored mucus. I'm 100% healthy they all said. So now I'm on week 7 or something of no meat especially red. And my theory is that my body could not digest the meat and so my body would try to get rid of it via my mucus out my lungs. Now I still have mucus but it's just clear lol. I love this feeling. Who needs a doctor lol. I still will go see a doc but now I hesitate and ponder on thier advice. If everyone stopped eating meat then there would be no world hunger and a sustained living would create food for everyone.

Perhaps if she hadn't eaten so many eggs she'd still be alive :)

But seriously with a sample size of 1 we can't draw any conclusions.

I am under the supervision of a personal trainer who is also a nutritionist and advocates this way of eating.

For breakfast I eat full fat natural Greek yogurt, a few almonds and 8 blueberries.

Veg included those that grow above the ground, I no longer drink alcohol or eat processed foods.

To date I have lost 1 stone in weight and my hb1ac has started to come down to within the healthy range.

Have you looked at your Bs, namely B12? A lot of us have a mutated gene which prevents us from easily absorbing Bs.

A recent Doctor In the House series in the Uk (BBC) took on the challenge of a chap who was wiped out each day with fatigue for 20 years. His homocysteine level was 34 plus. A week on Bs started to turn him around, dropping the level to 7 i think.

If on a ketogenic diet, Dr Eric Berg reckons that B5, pantothenic acid deficiency could be a contributor.

I've had arm fulls of blood tested for B's, C D, and everything else over the years! I take B complex as a matter of course.

Check a nutritionist. Believe me, GPs aren't trained in this area.

Try sticking to main vegetables and fruit and limit your animal protein intake and switch to beans and legumes. See if this improves. Track your daily routine so they'll know to suggest alternative habits. You can ask for a referral from gp too.
