I have been prescribed evacal D3 1500 mg /400 iu. Taking 2 of these daily. Having read on here that K2 is good to take at the same time, should I be taking 50 ug or 100 ug each day? I bought these from the health shop. My doctor could not advise on these

Thank you champak045 for replying..I think the D3 was possibly to do with Dexa scan showing Osteoporosis ..dr said my vitamims re Hypo were ok..Just had a further blood test for other various things, my last Hypo test was about two or three months ago and se said stay on 50 Levo as I feel mainly well and as I am nearly 82 she was reluctant to change dosage..said for heart reasons...tho I don't have heart problems and can walk up hills etc..I will ask,formrecent print outs when I get the next results..difficult to know if age has anything to do with prescribes but my dr has known me for many years. MY main problems are very slow evacuation, severe constipation (awaiting to see a consultant re second bowel prolapse) n ever being hungry, weight 8 .8lbs..BP 137/73 roughly .. pills,and a gall bladder full of small stones, but they only cause occasional pain and cos of my age leaving well alone..otherwise I am fine ..well not too bad thankfully 😊
Sorry you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis . At your age and with your various problems I would be wary of taking supplements without consulting a doctor. However if you are not eating properly then it's possible you aren't getting enough from food. Usually eating leafy greens, grains and vegetable oil gives us the small quantities we need. We need a mg for every kilo of body weight daily.
I take a similar amount t of Adcal due to a risk of osteoporosis after a period of oral steroids.

I think mother had Osteoporosis and tho she lived quite well to 96 in the latter few years she was bent over..So mine is probably genetic and also the Omaprazole I have been prescribed for years after endoscopies cause this as well..so I am cutting the dosage on them..I have decided not to take the evacal...the side effects are too scary for me with the gut problems I am keeping under control..
Although I don't ha e a big appetite now I eat loads of fruit and veg,as well as some meat and cheese, Kefir and avacado and asparagus..and do,half hours balancing exercises each morning..dr. Didn't know about K2 but on here it has said this he,ps the D 3 buy moving the calcium away from bad spots into bone..not sure if I've got that right thanks for your input..😊
in females osteoporosis is very common after menopause. This is due to deficiency of estrogen. It's better to prevent it before it sets in by HRT - hormone replacement therapy. Once osteoporosis has set in it can't be reversed except giving high doses of estrogen which is not advisable.
With hrt started in perimenopausal period calcium and k2-7are very beneficial. K2-7 gives strength to the trabeculae of bones in which ca and phosphates are bound giving strength to the bones. One can take calciteiol 500mg, k2-7 50 mcg with mg zn. In india Calcimax k2-7 is one brand. This is for example and not promoting any brand. At 82 such preparations may give some relief.
D3 60k units per month is good. 2000/ day or 60000k / month.
