Sauerkraut

I've had so many issues since getting food poisoning on 22 November last year that I am taking control of my health.

I used to have IBS C which I managed with no problem, I could put up with the pain and bloating. Since having food poisoning the IBS has changed completely as I've been getting diarrhoea and nausea, last night I was feeling very sick. I have been living off white toast so have been feeling very tired and lacklustre. I am a person that enjoys keeping fit and eating very healthily but haven't been able to do either which has been very frustrating.

I have been talking to someone on the IBS part of HU and she has been very helpful and mentioned that I may have Candida. I am therefore taking control of my gut so today I made Sauerkraut (I have Dr Michael Mosley's Clever Guts Diet book) and will now watch that ferment for about 3 weeks. I have thrown away my Sourdough starter to make a new one with Gluten free flour. I also bought Kombucha this morning and have had some already and it tastes delicious.

I will beat this no matter what. This condition isn't understood very well by the medical profession. I think at the end of the day what we put into our gut counts for how we feel.

I will continue to feed my gut with these wonderful fermented foods, you cannot beat a natural solution.

It shouldn't be too long before I am back making my favourite Vegan dishes and that I will be able to enjoy them. :)

Hi Hidden

Wow, your Sauerkraut looks FANTASTIC!!!! I hope that you are able to get some relief from the horrible symptoms you've been experiencing, and wishing you the best for tackling things.

Sending you a hug, if that's ok.

Zest :-)

Hi Zest

Thank you and I now have to leave it to ferment, I am planning to beat my stomach issues forever!

I bought some Kombucha this morning whilst shopping and have had some and it tastes delicious, maybe that's the next thing I'll try and make.

Sending a hug is lovely, thank you :)

Hi Alicia, well poor you as this is a long time so I wish you well with this, at least you're doing positive things like your sauerkraut, which does look good and taking Kombucha is also a very positive thing to do so again good luck with this.

Jerry 😊

Hi Jerry

Thank you and I'm looking forwarded to trying it when it's ready. The Kombucha was lovely; it's gluten free sourdough next, I'm going to look for a starter now :)

I look forward to hearing how you get on with your gluten free sourdough, so I do hope that you feel better soon. 😊

Thank you Jerry and I will be sure to let you know. I do as well as it's been a long time now, wish I hadn't eaten something that had rice in it that's for sure!

I have gut candida, and everything suggests the best way to deal with it is by crowding it out. Lots of probiotics, lots of omega 3, and oregano.

They recommend Sacromyces Boullardi as a probiotic, as it's also fungal.

Be aware that when you start any probiotics, you'll experience "die off".

Thank you Cooper for your helpful tips as I am very new to this. I do have probiotics and have been taking them for quite a while now but on their own they are doing nothing. Do you take Omega 3 supplements - reason for asking is that I am a Vegan. Do you cook using Oregano? I'll have a look at that probiotic, thank you.

Appreciate your help and guidance.

Yes, I take a fish oil capsule, but I think you can get vegan omega 3/6 that uses flaxseed oil?

The oregano is also a supplement :) it's very potent! You should only take 1 a day to begin with.

Thank you Cooper and I will look for the supplements, I've already marked a page for the Probiotics.

Go you! Gut bacteria is so important. A tablespoon of golden linseeds every day is also wonderful and protecting your gut from irritants and will allow it to heal. This was on advice from a hospital dietician. I've been doing for years and no longer suffer with IBS.

in reply to Violetta25

Thank you Violetta25 . I used to have a tablespoon of golden linseed when I had IBS C but since having the food poisoning it changed to IBS D with nausea, so much worse. I have had two days now with Kombucha and what a difference. I will definitely go back to trying the linseed though, so much cheaper.

Can't wait to try my Sauerkraut when it's ready.

Really pleased you are better now, that's amazing news; shows that this condition can be beaten. :)
