Filling up on fish

I like fish. yellow fish is OK although it gives me the burps. but its nice with carrots, leeks and a few potatoes.

I also like white fish with the same things. The problem i have is that it can be so un-filling and I sometimes feel like I have not had a meal at all.

Can anyone suggest how i can bulk up a meal consisting of white fish with carrots, leeks and potatoes to make it more filling ?

Hi Greyone ,

Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. You asked about bulking a meal up which consists of white fish, carrots, leeks and potatoes, to make it more filling. I would suggest that you could use some olive oil to cook the vegetables and maybe add some cheese to the fish dish as well, and that would be more satisfying and filling. That would be how I would approach it, and I feel sure you may get other suggestions too.

I hope you enjoy your meals.

Thanks. Should have mentioned that i only have access to a microwave at the moment. But I'll keep my eyes peeled for more suggestions.

Maybe add a few beans - like butter beans or borlotti beans for extra sustenance - they are filling and nutritious. :-)

Mmm. I've been thinking about this and ya know I'm not sure about beans with carrots and leeks. Maybe a swop is required here.

Hope you manage to find some swaps you enjoy. :-)

Well last night was fish night. Until recently I decided to knock it on the head because it didn't appear to be working.

One thing I do know is that my appetite can be greatly affected by my lifestyle and to be quite honest, I have n idea what a healthy lifestyle is. To be it appears to be a general term for a bunch of good habits. This month I decided I'd try a few and stick to rigid bed times (10:30pm - 6:30 am) and meal times ( 9am, noon and 6pm). This seems to help because I think I'm on the road to a good nights sleep and establishing regular meals for my belly.

So last night for tea , I decided it was kippers again, with carrots, leeks and boilers. I resisted the temptation to throw in some sausages and bacon despite sounding like a fun meal and instead took to eating it very very slowly and resting before and afterwards.

I think all this must have helped because although I did not feel like I'd had a meal, I was not tempted to eat more. This was all followed by two hours of chores and making ready for bed at 8:30 pm. Just like last time, I think in a few weeks time I'll probably slip into bad habits. So for next week I'll try and swap the leeks with some beans to see if that helps.

I'm sorry to see no other helpful suggestions for meal additions. I guess every just like fish the way it is. So later on today I may have to turn to Google.

Ya know , I think t his is one of the reasons why fish was never popular in our family. On its own it lacks the capacity to fill up the belly. Any way I'll let you know next Wednesday how I get on with your suggestion. Thx for now.

I really like kippers. I haven't had any for ages - you're reminded me of their existence. :-) Glad you found it helped to eat your meal more slowly and mindfully - that's a great strategy to savour your meal and good for your digestion.

There are some recipe ideas for fish here - that I spotted when looking for some ideas, so that might be helpful - it's from the BBC Good Food website:

Wishing you an excellent week, and I'll look forward to hearing how you get on when you next post.

Good luck.

Thanks for the Link Zest, i'll have to see if there is anything that is microwave friendly. Eating food slowly seems to be good for us but I always forget to do it. But this Tuesday is Kipper night so I'll try again and see if I can get into the habit. Maybe one of the reasons why my meals don't seem as filling.

Great! I hope you enjoy those Kippers on Tuesday - they are a tasty fish! :-)

Kippers remind me of school (but I do love them!). We always had kippers for Saturday breakfast - I swear it was a ruse to stop us seeing the boys as we all had "kipper breath" for the rest of the day! And we weren't allowed to skip breakfast either! LOL

If you are in U.K. LAkeland sell sealed bags which are brilliant for microwave cooking 😊
