Way back in 1981 my wife and I had the good fortune to meet a consultant surgeon specialising in the alimentary canal. He had written a letter to the Telegraph and because my wife had a column in a Westcountry paper on the subject of food, she made contact with him. He prooved to be a wonderful man who has taught us so much about food, diet and health generally. He only has one complaint, he says, "The trouble with my profession (the medical profession) is that they are blinded by their own pomposity and in many cases, unteachable".
Ever since we have followed his advice and found that we are the better for it. He totally disagrees with the saturated fat recommendations from the NHS and some of the other fads such as skimmed milk etc. We now drink ONLY whole unpasteurised milk and have done so for 25 years. We also bake our own wholemeal bread made from organic wheat grain which we mill immediately before baking the bread.
My wife is 86 and I am 82 and neither of us are on regular medication and walk twice a week; that must say something!
