What kind of seaweed is this?

Can anyone tell me what kind of seaweed this is? I'm wondering how to prepare it and how long it stays or how to tell if it's still fresh.

Hi Andromeda,

Maybe put the words Rong Bien in a google search so you can see what comes up - I don't have any experience of cooking sea weed, but I imagine there are some recipes online. Isn't there a 'use by' date on the packet so you can know if it should be fresh or not?

Hope you find some ways to enjoy it.

Lowcal :-)

Don,t quote me on this but I think it may be a type of seaweed used in Vietnamese soups, usually with pork mince broth and shrimp ( heads on). High in iron content, I had variations while travelling in Korea. Not my cup of tea I must admit, as Lowcal says probably best bet is to check out the net for ideas on preparation. anne.

From what I could gather Rong Bien just means "Sea Weed". By the looks of it it might be the variety "Bird's Nest" seaweed and apparently has an expiry date of 6 months in a cool and dry environment away from sunlight. verygoodrecipes.com has a number of recipes in which you can cook with it.

This is seamorse, or so we call it in the Caribbean. It is made into a delicious drink. Very nutritious but by the time the Caribbeans are done, it is nutritious but fattening I have included a link to the always desireable seamorse. uncommoncaribbean.com/2011/...

Sea moss is the correct spelling, as stated by GlowKateGlow.
