To cut down on the fats and oils in your food, cook using a microwave or steamer; avoid frying unless you use a fine spray on a non-stick pan. Watch out for oily sauces and rich cheesy dishes which you might find hard to digest. Make a sauce using tomatoes and herbs, thicken with cornflour, to add to pasta etc.
Use white meat like chicken or white fish where you can; eat red meat, bacon and sausages etc only in very small amounts. Swap chocolate for honey or meringues for a sweet treat.
I made a lovely dessert yesterday when I cut up a cooking apple and covered it with a batter (eggs, flour and milk) and baked in the oven whilst we ate our first course - served with a drizzle of syrup and some custard - a lovely low fat and low sugar pudding! It can be done, and you will feel so much better for it!
