It will be harder for you to exercise with back pain so check with your GP or physio to find out which exercises are best to strengthen your back. Losing weight will make a lot of difference to your physical and mental health so go for it! Good luck, I too have a back problem and exercise helps a lot, and keeps me cheerful.
Elizahanna is right, exercise would definitely make you feel better. To lose the weight, you primarily need to cut the carbs- flour products and sugar. Carbs are what put pounds on, so do your best to stay away from cereal, bread, pasta, crackers, etc, etc, and sugar of course. They are finding that a low fat diet was not good advice- you need good fat and that's what will fill you up. Eggs for breakfast, not cereal or some other grain product like bagels or whatever. Eggs with their yolks are quite filling. Check out dietdoctor.com for lots of help. Good luck!
