Emdr for guilt and shame

Can Emdr help when one suffers from guilt and shame when they inadvertently harmed someone else? My friend’s son is bi polar and did something very foolish to someone.....did not cause physical harm....yet feels extreme guilt and shame.

Thanks.

EMDR is great for healing shame and guilt. If possible, I recommend that he work with a therapist who specializes in Trauma and uses EMDR in their treatment process. I did EMDR with both a general therapist and a trauma therapist and it was much more productive with the trauma therapist.

I definitely agree with this. I am doing EMDR with a psychologist trained in trauma focused therapy and it is so helpful to have someone who 'gets' it. 🙂🌸
