I had a quick look at his website but I can't quite see how this would be useful in healing from trauma. So, I wanted to ask if you have had any experience with it and how it helped you? Sharing useful resources is great but it doesn't mean much unless you share a bit of your personal experience and how this resource was helpful to you...
Also checking the credibility of this person is important...just my concerns to protect our forum members, that's all.
P.S. I can see from his biography that he has indeed got a degree and seems to be reputable.
Daniel Siegel is a Psychiatrist. He uses neurobiology/ neuroscience to educate people on trauma and the brain.
Briefly, when a person is hyperaroused it is the right emotional brain that is dominant, the left rational thinking part of the brain seems to shut down.
This is where people get overwhelmed and to the point of dissociation.
Indeed, it is true that the left side of the brain is less active, when triggered and brain seems to shut down (rational thinking). I know it is a defense mechanism from the brain when it gets too much.
What usually helps is to focus on something nice in the environment (grounding) to get back to here & now.
It is interesting to know more about brain and nervous system and what happens during a trauma response. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. I'll go take a look at the website. No wonder that I usually can "hear" my heartbeat so loud in my right ear (right side of my head) when I'm getting stressed.
