First off I would like to apologize for not updating and actually not being active at all. I get that some of you may have gotten concerned. For me it is now back to school season (unfortunately), so I’ve been way more busy than usual.
But I’m here now and I have some news for those interested.
Grandpa is doing better, he is now breathing on his own and even opened his eyes and squeezed my uncle’s hand. Other than that, he’s still unresponsive. But that is a huge progress considering he was on the verge of death just about two weeks ago. But we’re not sure what to do now, since they can’t keep him in the ICU forever. Dad has been looking for some good institutions to place him in, because grandma just wouldn’t be able to take the required care of him.
In general it seems like things are on a good path and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Thank you all for your support and your concerns while I was gone!
Sending all my best wishes to ya’ll, love u
Xx

Hi Aneta, don't worry about not being active, there is no requirement. Glad your granddad is doing better. I wouldn't necessarily to around for other care facilities at the moment. Even if he doesn't require ICU, he might be on the wards for some time. Depending on the funding stream, will also, to a point, dictate what ongoing care is needed, and available. 🍀
Hi again Aneta. Coming through brain injury is an incredibly slow process as I'm sure you already understand, but your grandad's eye opening, unaided breathing and gripping are all positive signs.
Are you in the UK m'love ? I ask, as the mention of your dad looking for ongoing care places sounds premature. In NHS hospitals, leaving ICU is only one stage of in-patient care.
Hospital procedures vary, but your grandad (if here in UK) would be transferred to a intermediary ward before the final step to a rehab ward, although some hospitals do transfer patients to another facility for rehab.
Generally, I'd expect your grandad to be an in-patient for many more weeks yet. But good news so far m'love, and I hope his progress continues.
Hi Cat, No, I am not in the UK, we’re in Eastern Europe, the health-care here is not the best but certain facilities here have a sort of hospital wing where you can place your loved ones who cannot be in the hospital.
Ah, I guessed you must be somewhere other than the UK. We complain about services here but it's mainly waiting list problems nowadays. Our government has starved our NHS of funding but the staff, and service itself, is excellent once you're able to access the care.
I just hope your dad can convince the health authority there to keep your grandad within a secure unit and with continuing care. Love and all best wishes, Cat x
Hi Aneta, glad to see you have been back on and grandpa has made some improvements, I was getting quite worried about you, and left you some private messages to pick up if you didn’t want to come on. Hope grandpa continues to improve and receives the necessary care he needs to continue this, lots of love Alice xx
