Dear Everyone,
Something Pleasant, to read about, for a change....
Yesterday I went to Thursford, for their annual Christmas Spectacular. It IS a very long way, over two hours- on a Good Run- but well Worth it.
We boarded, the coach, around 9:15am and, after a couple more 'Stops' reached Swaffham- around 11. Tea (or coffee) and Mince pies, were provided at the George Hotel (I had also ordered a Bacon Roll, before we arrived.) Very good and, much needed, by then.
Thursford, is a Museum, that has collections of Steam Engines, Traction Engines, Steam Threshing Machines and the like, along with, all the history of Farming in Days Gone by.
It also, just happens, to Host the primary 'Christmas Spectacular'- that you have ever seen. The Shows are almost Beyond Description…., There are Dances, probably Fifty of them, Acrobats, Magicians, 'High Wire' acts (including those climbing Silks.) Music, that you can scarcely believe, Pipers, Wurlitzer Organ, a full Orchestra and, as if that wasn't enough a Full, and Beautiful, Choir....It is, in ALL probability, the most Wonderful Christmas Show that you can see- certainly in this country.
One part included an act from- and I'll try to get this right- Circ De Solier (I'm NOT sure that that's right...Circus Of the Sun, in English). A man and Girl both, started skating, on a small- I suppose you might call- Portable Rink. A first they were facing each other, then he was Swinging her, by her under arms. Next she put her leg on his shoulder, whilst still skating on the other foot. Finally she had her legs 'Locked Around', his Middle, as the Speed picked up....her head seemingly, maybe a foot, from the ground. Overall an amazing show, which I, HIGHLY Recommend...Get yourself a Coach Booked, maybe for next year, at this stage.
Our Driver, had asked us, to Get Back to the coach 'as soon as possible'- as there are a couple, one in particular, of junctions to negotiate in order to reach the main road. I think that we were the first away!
After about 40 minutes we reached the 'Olde Windmill Inn', were Dinner was to be served. They are Amazing and can, seemingly without any difficulty, accommodate Coach Parties. (I have previously known Two coaches, to arrive, at the same time...). The food was 'Pre- ordered, when we Booked the show, and they even managed my Mother's Meal- she has a number of Food Allergies- without apparent problems. From there it was, just shy of, the 'two hours' back- as I said a Long Day.
I've told Everybody, who has knocked, to Leave ne Alone today! Wisper it quietly but...I'm not even Dressed yet....
To re-cap, an absolutely Stunning Show, with a Lovely Meal afterwards...but an awfully long Day, definitely Worth It though. So that was my Adventure yesterday....Has anyone else had a similar 'Trip'?
Merry Christmas
AndrewT
