Ice cream headache feeling after going out and aftermath

It has gotten very cold up here. I went out yesterday and the cold hit me like an ice cream headache. I have felt really dizzy, feel like I want to walk, stumble to the right and I feel sicky!

Anyone else?

I have hats but did not think it was that cold!

Is this a regular? Not really been out for 5 years unless in a car in this weather. Will not be doing it again!!

Thanks all.

Really important to get oxygen into the bloodstream via short regular exercise. Twice per day 15 mins round the short block of houses In the cold weather, I looked like a mountain climber - I was well wrapped as I walked slow. A wool hat, a wool jumper with a hoodie to go over the hat, a rain jacket with a hood that went over both. With scarf and gloves. And wool socks. This way, I could relax in the warmth while focusing my attention on my legs coordination and proprioception so as not to fall over while the headaches raged and lack of focus in the eyes perpetuated. Mostly at night as I was unable to deal with sunlight and noise. Getting dressed up and remembering the key was a major challenge at first and I had a tick list for the event to ensure I didn't leave the house without a key. At a guess it would take a good 30 minutes to prepare for a 15 minute walk! Twice per day, I was so proud of myself. The level of difficulty was huge as I had little executive function / planning ability.

Walking was my route to healing. Oxygen is mandatory for healing. If you want to recover you will find a way. Congrats on getting out, the first time in 5 years. I learnt to celebrate events like this by serving up my favourite food. I also wrote it in my diary of events as a milestone and would write something like " went outside today, first time in 5 years, was cold, Wow, well done me, woohoo, I'm on the road to a healthy body, will work out how to do it again but be warmer next time." Then on my next good day of lesser headaches and better vision and balance, I would go to my diary, and read what I had written to remind me of my last intention, and then do it. My memory was awful, days spent sleeping so writing my progress down was the only way to manage, control and progress.

I was tripping over raised pavements, and would use the wall along the pavement to hold on to at intervals to steady my gait. Numbness, pain, balance, despite all the body protests, I walked twice per day for 15 mins. That was my routine. That was my focus and I believe that was how I healed my BI.

You've got this! You can do it! You are a star! 5 stars for you. Now do it again! Best wishes.

Wonderful reply. Thank you.

I have been out but always with my wife or others since 2012. This weather just plays havoc with all of my other injuries.

First time feeling the cold on my head in so long. My mobility scooter is ace but every bit of wind buffers me. My wife normally tells me what I need, I had everything else apart from headgear and I have a hat in the house. I always forget something or other doing anything and so easily distracted and put off.

I have mobility issues due to my RTC so exercise is difficult to get to on my own from where we live currently. We are moving near to Rutland soon and the water. Lots of fresh air, handbiking, etc. That should get me and my head used to it and like you all wrapped up.

I will be more able to go out on my own with safety as well as everything I will need will be on my doorstep!

Once again thank you for your reply and thanks for all your positive energy.
