I keep forgetting to take my medication except pain killers has any one any reminders they use to remind them to take the medication
Done it again part 4: I keep forgetting to take my... - Headway
Done it again part 4
I keep mine by the side of the bed, take the daly ones first thing with my morning cuppa and I have to take a statin at night so take that last thing when I go to bed. Luckily don't need to take any others during the day or I'd have real problems.
I use a pill container that has daily compartments so you can see at a glance if you've taken that days, I fill it Monday morning for the week.xxxx you can get pill containers that have am and pm ompartments too
I use the calendar and alarm functions in my (very basic and not at all smart) mobile phone for pretty much everything and I never switch the alert/alarm off until I have done whatever task it was set to remind me to do. If it goes off and I am unable to do the task at that moment I delay it by altering the alarm. It took a while to get to right but it has worked well for me for several years now
You can also buy med alert beepers but the same thing applies...you must respond to the beeper before switching it off or "ooh look shiny" could remove all thoughts of meds from your mind
Some people (my mother for example) find it helps to put the next set of meds on a table or counter where you will see that at the relevant time of day and that will be a reminder to take them... that one doesn't work for me.
Hope you find something that works for you.
BEEN THERE, BEEN THERE, BEEN THERE. IT'S THE EVENING DRUGS I FORGET. I TAKE THE MORNING ONES WITH MY CUP OF COFFEE.
I'M SUPPOSED TO TAKE THEM AT 9.30ISH IN THE EVENING, & EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE IN A POT ON THE TABLE NEXT TOTHE SOFA SOMETIMES IT GETS TO 11.30 OR MIDNIGHT & I CAN'T REMEMBER IF I'VE TAKEN THEM. I DON'T TAKE THEM THEN AS I DON'T WANT RISK TO TAKING 2 LOTS
IT'S OK EXCEPT FOR THE CIPALEX WICH GIVES ME WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS EVEN IN THAT SHORT A TIME. SO FAR MISSING A DOSE OF THE EPILEPSY STUFF HASN'T SEEMED TO HAVE HAD A DRAMATIC EFFECT BUT I'M SO FITTY A THE MOMENT MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF THAT.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.
Guess what I just did, because it was writing about taking the pills I forgot to take them, just shows how distraction works, not the first time that because I've spoken about something I think I've done it Aargh !
I forget a lot but I look at my pill box (weekly one) so if Sat. am's
have gone I know I took them. Same in the evenings.
Good luck Dill
My pillbox is a freakin miracle for my epilepsy medication. I could never remember if I'd taken my morning dose of not!
I have a pill box and a app on phone with alarm when to take pills and what pills
I used to hav this problem and be too scared to take any in case I had just not remembered.
My gp had them put in a card thing about a4 size that has the time and day on. This didnt work well when I couldn't remember what day it was tho. I would take weds am pills then realise at lunchtime it was tues so would take tues lunch time then in evening when I was tired I could not decide what drugs to take.
I now have a day in a pill box with the am lunch and pm. My other half used to fill it every night ready for next day but no I'm doing it and he just checks it in the morning before he goes to work. This works very well as I have some control and he is my safety net.
Mine are in a pill box next to my bed. You get pill boxes with either one compartment per day, or two, or three, so there can Bo morning, noon and night. Also keep reminders on you phone, or there is a proper medical alarm. Ask your social carer. Hope you come right
I used to work for a chemist a few years ago , and for the elderly people and younger people with problems we used to have them in a blister pack , with every day of the week in and breakfast ,lunch , tea time and bedtime clearly marked . So when I had this brain and memory problem I asked my local chemist if I could have in a blister pack which they kindly do for me every month , so I have 4 weeks delivered in weekly packs at a time and I find this is really good for me I hope this is an idea for you especially if you on loads of tablets like me x
My friend uses her mobile phone alarm as she always has it with her.
This is a bit simplistic but I put out the days pills on my desk in the morning and what you have taken is then staring you in the face - either you have or you have not.
Best,
i have this problem. i've just made a medication organiser from an egg carton with m, t, w etc written on the bottom. even when i see that the day is empty i question whether i've actually taken them because i don't remember taking them and i wonder about my organisational skills... we have to trust ourselves a little more, i think. i set an alarm that goes off at the same time everyday. i think i'm going to start setting reminders instead because an alarm in the day is confusing when i've already had one in the morning... this is a time when phones can be really good - reminders, alarms, calendars, timers. covers the basics that help loads.
