Hi i was called in to my doctors today. Had positive test for coeliac and being referred to gastro for biopsy etc. Bit confused though does this mean i defo have coeliac??
Positive blood: Hi i was called in to... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Positive blood
Would have said so, they are probably doing biopsy to see how bad it actually is. This is what happened with me. Then you will more than likely be referred to dietician to help you make the transition to gf foods.
Lots of help from the members on here if you feel you need it in the future too.
I agree with Lisahelen.
Positive blood test = positive for Coeliac Disease for me too.
It is highly likely that you have Coeliac Disease. They won't confirm it until you've had the biopsys done.
Now is a good time to make sure that you eat all your favourite foods containing gluten. Doughnuts, kit kats, your Mum's favourite cake recipe etc, etc. This is the period where you have to consider beginning the process of saying goodbye to them. Make sure that you have no unfinished business with these foods. I found that doing it that way made the transition to GF just that little bit easier to cope with mentally.
If you truly are a Coeliac, then you will probably start to also realise how ill gluten containing foods can make you when you consciously have them (if you haven't already). But DO NOT stop eating gluten foods until you've had your biopsys. It will mess up the results.
Best of luck.
I love the analagy of getting your unfinished business out of the way, i wish i had had that chanc😂 I went for my bipsy the same day as i was told about my bloods. So it was case of immediate cold turkey for me😭. But within 6months my blood result was so much improved- not clear but sooooo much better.
My understanding is only the biopsy can determine for certain that it is Coeliac but if you have antibodies in your blood it is likely. Had my gastroscopy last May which confirmed Coeliac. Off gluten since and feeling much better. Good luck. 😃
I was told you can have a negative blood test and still be celiac or gluten intolerant . However a positive result means you have it. The biopsy is to see how much damage you have. My TTG bloods were 3000 + 9 months later my TTG bloods are 230. Still high as normal is below 20 . My biopsy showed total atrophy , which means my villi are completely flat. ( a lot of damage )Good luck with everything and yes eat all your favourite gluten containing foods before the biopsy as its tough on the diet . But lots of support on here .
Dear Lumac1988, I have always been under the impression that you can have a false negative blood test but a positive blood test means Coeliac. However, the biopsy that follows is part of the diagnostic protocol.
Getting a diagnosis is a positive step as it then becomes easier to address health issues that are connected with it. Try and gather as much information as possible from online sources, books, health professionals and local support groups which you can find through Coeliac UK.
All the best, Katariina
I would agree that it probably means you Are Coeliac Welcome to the prestigious Club,,, Your life will change for the better, when and if you are confirmed Coeliac, just a change of Diet, and hopefully like me you will see a vast improvement to your health in 3 weeks....Good Luck ...and nothing to worry about. Biopsy will reveal all - you just have to wait.
Your biopsy will reveal all - so you just have to wait.
