So I had so tests done to see what was going on with stomach and bowel issues. My bloods all came back fine but my stool said Coeliac disease was present. I have to wait 4 weeks and do another test before they will refer me to gastroenterology. My brother has Coeliac and has had it since birth but took many years to get the full diagnosis along with EDS 3 due to his bloods also always coming back negative. My question is if I get another positive test what will happen at the gastroenterology. Will there be further test done? Does coeliac also affect fertility as we are trying for a baby and nothing has happened in 4 years? Unfortunately Im not very good with hospitals or doctors it's taken me 4 years to get to this point. Any advice would be much appreciated on the medical side of this and the Coeliac side I've very well versed in. Thank you

I had negative blood test but I had stopped eating gluten before hand . I don’t know about a stool test as I never had one or heard that there was one that could diagnose celiac. I had a biopsy of the small intestine which was positive and the they done genetic testing to help confirm. 2 out of three were positive so I had the diagnosis.
As for fertility, I would assume that as the treatment for celiac is a gluten free diet then if you follow that then there would be no impact .
My understanding is that a stool sample can only show that you have absorption problems, but bearing in mind your brother has a diagnosis...............I'm preaching to the choir here.
"Will there be further test done?" Yes, you should be blood tested for Iga deficiency - don't think the GP can request this test, but worth asking. About 2% of coeliacs are Iga deficient, which means that they don't make the coeliac antibodies (your brother?). You should also have an endoscopy.
Does coeliac also affect fertility? If you have absorption problems you are likely low on vitamins/minerals, and that isn't going to be the best time to get pregnant. Has GP tested you for Iron, Folate, B12 & Vit D? If not, ask them to do so now - no sense in waiting here.
Thank you I'm just going off what the doctor has said. When having blood test was told I was having everything checked and that they all came back normal.
The reason I asked about fertility is because we have been trying for 4 years and nothing.
The best advice I have received regarding my health is to ask for copies of my blood results with ranges (or better still get online access). Within range does not necessarily mean where you need them to be. eg The range for Serum B12 will be something like 200 - 900 and the GP will usually say its normal at say 230 - but really you want it to be at around 500.
My bloods had been normal for years vitamin wise but I knew something wasn't right with something I was eating. Think I'd had it for at least about 15 years by the time it was discovered and then only because I got cancer (long story)! Even Doctor said he can't understand how it was missed (they took a bit of blood for various issues over those years). Get the endoscopy!!! That is the way to confirm it. Uncomfortable but it is better to find out sooner rather than 15 years or so later!!! Then hopefully you will have more chance on the baby front! Good luck!
I don't think NHS docs will accept a stool test as diagnosis of coeliac - if it shows fatty stool it indicates malabsorption which could be caused by different things. A stomach endoscopy should be conclusive if flattened villi are found though.....
