Dental Issues on Finesteride

Five weeks after starting on finesteride 5 mg I developed painfully sensitive teeth both top and bottom on left side of my mouth. Here's what a google search turned up:

forum.propeciahelp.com/t/pr...

ehealthme.com/ds/finasterid...

I became unwilling to walk my dog in the evening. Even 58 deg air triggered tooth pain. I had a urology appointment a couple of days ago. I saw a physician's assistant instead of my doctor. She was happy to report that my PSA had dropped from 2.8 to 1.4 on the finesteride. I had to tell her that I had quit taking the finesteride 5 days before the PSA blood draw. I told her that I refuse to take it. She suggested dutasteride but with similar mechanism of action I want no part of that either. I will be 74 in a few weeks. I received full gland HIFU ablation surgery in 2016. I received a 6 month eligard shot months before that. Since then I have been off ADT.

Oh, I had a pylarify scan Sept '23. It came back clear. I'll keep having my PSA monitored every 3 months. Any thoughts on how my PSA is rising without scans showing activity?

Fast Eddie,

I think you should be done with finasteride... there are tales on the internet about worsening dentition after finasteride... Finasteride has a short half life, so maybe the pain will resolve itself over a week or so...

If you are needing help with urination, then they can try a different class of drugs...

Good luck on your path...

No problems with urination, just a rising PSA that the urologist wanted to address.

This would be more likely from the ADT than the finasteride

I had a six month eligard shot in 2016 and had no dental problems back then.
