It's very difficult to get anything off the NHS these days!

As bbstport says, I guess your best bet is to get a referral to a physiotherapist as they can recommend a wheelchair if you need one.

Hope you manage to get a chair!

my brother is paralysed and has to buy his own chair as the ones the NHS provide are inadequate , he goes to a mobility shop as they will make sure you get a wheelchair to fit you properly if you decide this is your only option

Ask your GP for a referral for an OT assessment.

Be aware that some people are advised not to use wheelchairs as it can cause more problems than it helps. Also be aware that the likes of DWP/ATOS may be sceptical of those who self prescribe one, especially if they're claiming ESA/DLA/PIP.

Physio departments are the ones that can refer for wheelchair services if you need one but NHS normally has a bit of a wait. Although OTs work in wheelchair services, they are not the ones that can refer.

I work alongside OTs with social services and we have to redirect people back to physios. OTs can help if you need aids and adaptations to make life easier around your home.

Hope you get yourself sorted soon. I agree with Lima be careful about Dla etc.

You can hire one for a nominal sum from the red cross.

Gp refused me a walking aid so my oh bought me a walking stick for valentine's day... I have to say I've never looked back. Ok I still struggle but it's no where near as bad as what it was without. You know your body better than anyone. Do what you think is best for you xx
