Common symptom with fibro is sudden deterioration of eyesight, mine changed a lot in a year ... I went to the optician and they checked them out everything fine just a totally new prescription needed. Plus some meds make your eyes blurry esp anti depressants that help with sleep. If you haven't done so very recently I would book an appointment at your opticians.

Hope that helps

Glad you have been to the opticians and your gps, sorry I didn't realise you had pain and double vision if it doesn't clear up quickly I would go back to your GP and ask for a referral to an eye specialist , our eyes are important. Fortunately for me I know my on off blurred Vision is a symptom of my night meds it says in instructions... And although my vision changed quickly I didn't have any pain. So please don't just live with it ... Go back to your GP...

Hi debbie, the pain n double vision cud b from the fibro affecting ur eye muscles n nerves. I get it a lot n optitians say there's nothing wrong except prescription change. I vary between my different glasses thru out the year, depending on state of fibro, meds used etc. All said tho, defo get them thoroughly checked to b sure xx

Actually, Fibro shouldn't cause specific eye sight problems. Problems with focusing, especially with tired, may be related to Fibro, because we use muscles to focus, and some people have sensitivity to lights or light contrasts (which can make driving at night difficult) but that's about it.

It is a good idea to get checked out. If the optician has said everything is fine with your eyes, go back to your doctor. There are a number of health conditions that can seem to affect your eyes - migraines for example can cause double vision, other visual effects and pain in your eyes but are not an eye problem. There are also the conditions that cause dry and blurry eyes, such as Sjogrens Syndrome, but a good optician should pick up on dry eyes.

Hi Debz, I often have problems with my eye, about a year after I had been diagnosed with FM I found I needed glasses for long distance, whether this was a symptom of the FM or just coincidence, neither the Doctor or optician could say. I do how ever suffer with DRY EYES, this has been put down to a mixture of the FM and the medication I am on, some days they are so dry they hurt, they often feel itchy and gritty (a bit like conjunctivitis without the yellow crusting) because they are so dry they do affect my vision, sometimes it is very blurry and eyedrops do help most of the time, but during a bad patch or FM flareup it is considerably worse. Hope that sheds a little light for you, my advice would be get some eyedrops, I buy the ones in little vials as I can keep a couple in my bag/car/caravan etc.they may be a little more expensive but work out more cost effective in the long-run, as once a big bottle is open it has to be used within so many days or it is no longer effective.

Kim, have you had Sjogrens Syndrome ruled out?

Hi Debz,

I have for the last five years had yearly checks on my eyes as they can change from hour to hour let alone day to day. My last check was 6 months apart and the eyesight had changed considerably. Currently i am aware that I need new glasses again and am due a check in the summer. I have gone from no glasses to five new pairs in five years as they change so quickly. My eyes are healthy, very healthy acording tot he optical specialist doctor I recently saw as they though I had retinal detatchment which turned out to be migraine.

I think it is yet again do to the eyes being fbrious which is obviously what fibro attacks. I get blured vision, black spots and blindness at times. Everytime I think fibro has chucked everything it can at me I find something else makes an appearance.

Always get any changes checked.

Actually, Fibromyalgia is called that because it used to be thought that is was pain in the muscles and fibres (e.g. tendons & ligaments) of the body. It is now understood that the pain may manifest in the soft tissues of the body, but is from a central processing problem - though people with Fibro may also have issues around the muscles, such as myofascial pain. Fibro would not cause a change in the make-up of your eyes.

Have you seen a neurologist? Specific vision problems such as temporary blindness can be symptoms of other neurological conditions.

Thanks, yes I have seen neuro and had brain scan when the first thought I had dementia. They say it is fibro related not that they have any basis for that that i can see. Just another fob off really.

Yes but had bad eyesight previously did not notice then had catarac ops to find eyes get smeary. Plus what I did not expect eyesight even though had ops are deteriorating now to be told it is muscular degeneration. Oh well just another name tag to put on myself lol.

I have had brain scans and the fibro specialist told me the changes to my eyes are a direct issue caused by the fibro however I begin to think that really they just havn't a clue so just put everything down to fibro. Sometimes wonder why they bother to see you in the first place. Well now my fibro specialist has said to doctor no point in seeing me at all anymore as he has diagnosed fibro and it can't be cured so no point seeing me and wasting his time. Honestly you have to laugh or you would cry.

i also have dry eyes and blurry vision it depends on how much pain i am in and how tired i am since my fibro became worse we dont watch as much tv in the evenings and we now have much more family time and we talk to each other more

I'm gobsmacked there are so many comments regarding eye sight, I was convinced mine was all in my head. Maybe its not lol. Last year my eyes would go blurred all the time but it was the same time my body felt like it was shutting down, my gp suspected MS, Thank goodness it wasnt "so the MRI said" so the consultant put my symptoms inline with Fibomyalgia flareup. I'm 44 and my prescrption is at a -9 already. prob need a white stick by the time im 50.

I see things that coming to the side of my eyes so i jump, Although i can laugh now i was convinced i had a ghost in my house, i got it checked out at hospital and i was told i had floaters in my eyes, nothing to be concerned about the consultant told me so when it happens now i know its not ghostly goings on lol. Quite freaky though at first. "I do believe in ghosts" but im happy to know its protien in my eys. lol

I find if i am sat reading something or writing something at work for a while i come over very tired and my eyes become very heavy and 'fuzzy'

I already wear glasses and have had different prescriptions within a year, My specialist at the pain clinic has said this is a symptom of Fybro, and hastened to say it was very much akin to having Narcolepsy!
