Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HBOT).

Since being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2010, I am constantly researching symptoms and treatments for this illness.

One treatment I have increasingly been interested in is Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HBOT)., which from what I have read really gives effective results, especially with the pain.

The downfall I have found is all the treatments being offered appear to be private and very expensive, until today.

I came across a charity called CHARMS, which is the Charity Action for Relief of Multiple Sclerosis. They have a centre in Chelmsford Essex and they offer this treatment. In addition they accept referrals from your GP, so there is no cost to you, and all that is involved in referring is they send you a letter which you GP signs, confirming your condition and agreeing you can have the treatment.

In addition they have benefit advisor's who will review your ESA & DLA benefits and will help will claims, and appeals..

This is brilliant for me, as there is no Fibro support group in my area. I spoke to the Manager Judith, who is also an FM sufferer and she claims the treatment worked wonders for her.

I am willing to try anything, as the pains I experience on a daily basis, is sometimes so soul destroying, I do nothing but sit and cry. Which I hate myself for, as I have never been someone who gives in, and I feel that is what I am doing when I breakdown. My balance has got progressively worse, and I have now started using a stick sometimes when I go out, which is increasingly getting less and less.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the medical use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure. Patients go into a pressurised chamber for an hour and breathe pure oxygen through a mask with the result being a big increase in oxygen in the bloodstream, the generation of new stem cells and the natural repair of damaged organs and tissues. The treatment is said to help a wide range of ailments and also to help reduce swellings, inflammations and wounds that have not healed. (This is a summary of information I found about this therapy)

HBOT is also said to help people with neurological disorders, MS and possibly Fibromyalgia but because of the lack of NHS funding into this therapy, it is most often available through private clinics at present. There aren't many NHS funded treatment centres at the moment.

Any enquiries regarding this therapy, please consult your GP who can advise you regarding more information and whether there this therapy is available near you, but more importantly whether this therapy is suitable for you.

i see the oxygenation bods on Tuesday. Its a session every week day for 4 weeks. If you have epilepsy trouble with your ears of flying its a no go . I am due to start in a couple of weeks !!! The unit in Cardigan West Wales are very happy to treat us fibro folks and you do not need a GP referral just a signed form from your GP that he sees no reason why you cant have it x

Saw my GP and he would not sign the form as I am waiting an ECG as I have been getting pains in my chest and shortness of breath.

He thinks I may have Angina and untils he know for sure will not sign. He did say however that he approves of the treatment, and has a few other fibro patients that are having the treatment and have reported positive effects.
