st thomas hospital!
Hi.
I am going to have to go to Liverpool hospital when I finally get my appointment. I am in Cheshire and will have to get hubby to drive me as it is too far for me to drive at the moment.
We have something called communicare here. They are voluntary drivers who take people to hospital and doctor appointments. They don't want money but a contribution towards petrol is always welcome. Ask your doctors if you have anything like that near you.
Good luck.

Hi
Not had this issue but I have been told that the fibro specialists at St Thomas's are second to none, if I had a referral for there I would swim the channel or climb a mountain to see them!
Hope you get transport sorted.

oh really! well il keep u informed it didnt say anything about fibro specialists that makes me feel better thought i was going to confront non believers had enough of those! thanku for ur reply x
Hiya
I have just been through all this. If you are not in a fit state to use public transport then you asked your GP to arrange transport for you (usually a taxi firm they have an arrangement with) they will collect you and take you up to London. You also then need to contact the London hospital and notify them that you are unfit to travel and that your county NHS Trust has arranged your transport up and that they, in turn, need to arrange your transport home.
Hope this helps.
Mel
As you are fairly close to London, St Thomas's might well be able to arrange your transport. If you call the hospital and ask for their transport office they will let you know. In East Anglia GP surgeries are no longer allowed to request patient transport as the hospitals have to speak to the patients and triage them to check eligibility. Not sure if this is a national change or just local but, as several health authorities are involved, I suspect it might be widespread. Generally, if you are receipt of benefits or disabled and on a low income, they're able to arrange transport both ways. Hope you get it sorted and the referral goes well x
