I knew something was happening because of all the pain I was getting despite all the painkillers the doctors could throw at me... now he's trying something new, a tablet called Duloxetine, has anyone heard of this & more importantly does it work! am hoping it does because I don't like being in so much pain (Like many others) am just hoping it works.
He said that if it is Fibromyalgia pain (Which I feel it is because it's too widespread to be anything else) most painkillers don't work so he's trying me on this tablet... here's hoping it works...

Sorry to hear that you are having a flare up and in a lot of pain. Your new medication is an antidepressant and they do use these sometimes to help with pain. If your like me anything is worth a try.
According to Wikipedia (which was easier than copying the guff from the BNF!), Duloxetine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It is effective for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Duloxetine failed the US approval for stress urinary incontinence amidst concerns over liver toxicity and suicidal events; however, it was approved for this indication in Europe, where it is recommended as an add-on medication in stress urinary incontinence instead of surgery. It can also relieve the symptoms of painful peripheral neuropathy, particularly diabetic neuropathy, and it is used to control the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
I think it's in the same sort of category as amitriptyline, in that its actions are not directly for pain relief, but it does have a side-effect of controlling pain in some people. Basically, it's worth a try for a couple of months, in which time, you should know if it's working.
Hm been doing your homework.I haven't been offered this, the doc just ups my dosage, which is great because,i feel like i'm on the outside looking in,it sends me numb and my body feels heavy.Jacksiex.
I've been wondering why I keep hearing about this drug, but I've never been offered it. I think I know why now as Lyrica made me suicidal my doctor might be a bit reluctant to try something else that could do the same.
Hi I take it as an antidepressant and the spin of of diverting the pain a little is brilliant - give it a go I take mine in the mornings goodluck xgins
I was prescribed this a few months ago but had bad side effects, felt drunk, hope you get on better with it. I have just been given pregabapentin and fluroxine to try as having a really bad flare at the moment, have been off work for two weeks which I hate. Has Any one else tried these meds, I have fibro and Hypermobility syndrome.
I have been taking this for a few weeks I take 3 per day. I am having a flare up just now so in lots of pain and I don't think these are doing much to help at the moment, going back to the doctors on 5 December to find out what happens next. Really fed up now!!
I keep reading about flare ups but i don't think i have actually had a flare down yet, but i have had a flare up up whenever i get migraine which is about twice a month i have pain, pins and needles, numbness, and that vibrating pain i seem to get all the way down one side of my body. When i went to the Dr he said yes it could be the fibro but didn't do or say anything else. The only things he's saying recently is that pain killers don't work however unless he wants to die i suggested he leave mine well alone. I am also on Gabapentin which is amazing for the vibrating pain i seem to get. Good luck to you all with the pills
I have never had this pill, I am just on Amitrips for the foreseeable future. I seem to be in one long flare up but I think this may be down to other ongoing ilnesses xxxxx
