Memory?

Does anyone else suffer bad memory loss?

I can be having a conversation with someone & then forget what I was telling them. when they remind me what we were talking about I still cant remember.

Also, I can meet someone I know well & I just cant for the life of me think of their names.

It happened to me last week at my cousins funeral. Another cousins partner came to talk to me, I remembered her name then her partner/my cousin came over & I just could not think what his name was. Talk about embarrassing?

Its beginning to worry me! Is it a common fibro symptom or should I seek medical advice?

Don't know if it is Fibro ... my memory is like a swiss cheese. I can remember facts and things that happened to me but there are holes - but then I've had mini-strokes and full strokes but with no brain leisions showing on the MRI scan.

It is remembering to do things such as make phone calls, send birthday cards, attend appointments that elude me.

Names and faces is very patchy - as an ex-teacher in the area where I now live I often run into ex pupils but it is so hit and miss whether I remember them or not.

Yet I can remember when I was in nappies and lying in my pram since the strokes. The powers that be would have you believe that memories aren't laid down til age two or three. But I remember the pattern of the braid around the hood on my pram and how warm and snug it was with just the odd raindrop coming through and onto my face. And I remember the way the plastic pants that were put over my nappy would dig into my legs and be really uncomfortable.

There is a lot more to memory than anyone knows. I do think doing puzzles and actively watching quiz shows (ie shouting out the answers lol) keeps the brain active ... if you don't use it you loose it.

My Mother had Altziemers - it started creeping on in her late 40's and I must admit the prospect terrifies me, I've no intention of loosing my marbles!

This seems quite normal for a fibromite - it's called fibrofog.

Vit b12 is supposed to help your brain!

As Julie says, try to keep your brain active. Apparently, people who play a musical instrument to a reasonabale standard, or speak more than one langauge are less likely to develop dementia - it's thought they have more active pathways in their brain, so even if some get damaged then there are still others available. I don't know how, or if, this applies to us FMS sufferers, but it can't hurt. Try to do as many different types of mental activity as you can.

xx

Thanks a lot guys. I do tend to read a lot. Maybe I should start doing puzzles & things too.

I am finding my spelling is not good either & it used to be very good.

Have a Physio appointment at 9.15 & looking forward to it. Have been staying with my disabled brother since Saturday & I am sore.

Will do an updated blog later today on how things have been going with him.

Oh my I play piano and do daily strategy games on my iPad and play poker online..... So I am safer from dementia :) but fibro fog still comes a calling .... I frequently forget names ... Never know what date it is unless I look at tv guide... I have lists of things to do that I make and promptly lose.... But I blame it on my OH and son... I am so busy remembering what they have to do I forget what I have to do....... ;)

Thanks very much folks. Maybe Fibro Fog is what I am havin cos I never really new what F Fog was.

I've only been diagnosed with Fibro since Feb & everythin is still new.

Hi my memory is shocking and Paul has to write things down for me to remember, our callander is massivly overcrowded but i take Ginko Baloba and it helps a lot and Paul always knows when i haven't been taking it.

We have a menu each weeks so we buy only what is needed in shopping to keep waste and costs down been doing it 2 years now and Monday night is always Past, bacon and pesto night yet i still ask him even now what's for tea, yet take me somewhere new in the car and i will remember how to get their again even after months have past.

First time i went a to a friends house way in the windy roads of Camarthenshire my to show of my new baby and then it was 7 years later and i found it first time no problems and i was on my own, but remember what i was doing when i went to the kitchen forget it !! lol

My memory is very dodgy. I can forget something that somebody said to me almost as soon as they have.

I gave up worrying and just tell people I'm pleased to see them but have forgotten their name. once we start chatting, I remember many things and can hold my own. I don't remember anyone being offended [but would I?]

I also admit when I forget what I'm saying.

this makes my life so much easier and takes the pressure off. Yes it is c++p but trying to remember never got me anywhere, and I missed out on a lot. I hated it for a long time and it added to my black cloud.

now I find the humour in it e.g

"it's not a wife he wants, it's a doorstep" [mat]

I called the london "gherkin" the pumpkin!

stood in front of kitchen sink, cold tap running. empty glass in one hand, ribena bottle in other. couldn't remember why I'd gone in there, put it all down and half walked away when it dawned!

I believe that my brain has to work overtime to block out my pain, and get me through a day. It can't spare anything to remember the name of someone who will tell me if I ask.

let it go and see how you feel.

regards,

sandra.

hi, been reading blogs for a while, 1st blog, memory is rubbish, I forget basic things, i have to write down everything otherwise its gone, sometimes i remember what happened 40 yrs ago but not this morning, oh well I just carry on and hope, good luck everyone

Hi Sandra & Druss

Yes I thnk it is something we have to get used to. I'm not worried about it now as I can put it down to Fibro Fog. It is a good idea to write things down. I cant remember the here & now thi gs but remember well the things that happened years ago.

I think its best not to worry about it. I'm gonna invest in a whiteboard (new name for blackboard) & keep it in the kitchen so that I cant miss out on important things lol.

Take care

I had a memory check when I saw the occupational therapist. I was found to have a short term memory problem at least I now know I'm not going mad.

Hi Yvoone

I think that is well worth being checked out
