No hope

I know I have been depressed for a while now, but have never felt so low as I have this week.

With all this worry over benefits next year. My income will stop.

I get 2 letters from the council this week ,first sayng they are changing the council tax next year, meaning its going up.

Then today I get one saying they are changing the law about where you are housed. If you have a spare bedroom they are going to stop 14% of the benefit, if you have 2 spare rooms they will stop 25%

If you are disabled and you need a spare room for your partner to sleep in if you keep them awake or night does not count. If you have children that stay with you at weekends, not an excuse, you cant use that as an excuse.

I actually sat there and thought, what is the point? Why do I bother to live? This government is going to make sure I have no money, and now no home.

I hate the government!

I think everyone hates the government and all the stress they are causing people. To the housing law, and also booting people off dla. Its no wonder most off the country is depressed. And then what do they do, they give money away to other countries, when its us who badly need it here. I am starting to think this is going to become a third world country the way its going.

I am so sorry about what's happening Nanatre, it's a horrendous situation for someone who is genuinely ill to find themselves in.

I haven't heard about these changes in the law regarding rooms etc., I personally don't claim benefits, but I've been trying to find some info on it and apparently it seems that it's housing benefit that will be affected the most. I don't know at this stage whether other benefits will be affected to redress the balance a bit, I expect time will tell.

Here is some info about it -

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-...

"According to the Welfare Reform Bill, those currently living in social housing with one spare room can expect to lose £11 a week while those with two or more extra rooms may lose around £20 a week".

The legislation will affect England, Scotland and Wales and is expected to come into force in April 2013.

Have you been told anything specific about this Nanatre and how it will affect you personally?

I don't qualify for housing benefit but next year when my benefit stops I was hoping that I would be able to claim but looks like they've slammed another door in my face. Like you Nanatre I often sit here and wonder "whats the point" when did I cease to exsist as an individual in my own right? Suicide has been a oft considered option but my grandkids have kept me grounded. However the real hard times aren't here yet. I'm not sure if they will be able to ground me so well when the hard times are thrust upon me. soft hugs, speedy x

morning ladies/gents I used to work within benefit (hang her I hear you shout!!! lol) with regards to the reductions in benefits then this has always been so, but, if your partner needs another room to sleep in then that would not be affected as you would be eligible for that room. It is only for people who say for example, go and rent a property and there is wife, hubby and 2 girls under 16. They would not be entitled to a 3 bed, but only a 2 bed, however if there was wife, hubby girl aged 14 and boy 9, they would be entitled to 3. If there is single mum, boy aged 15 and girl say 9, then she also would also be entitled to a 3 bed, if she was a single mum and 2 girls under 16, then only a 2 bed. If a bedroom is needed for medical purposes then this would also be taken into account and that would disregarded when benefit is being calculated, it is very worrying and even myself who used to work within the system is confused with the new changeover! BUt I always say, the Government states that there is a minimum amount that someone needs to live on and they cant go below that amount, I hope this helps a little xx

Know what you are saying...i'm expected to pay £19 a week from my benefit...suddenly went up by £9 when they changed the way they calculate rent payments. Ppfftt..any excuse to put the squeeze on, where am i expected to get the extra money from?? Well you could ask your landlord to lower your rent...was gobsmacked. I pointed out that many of the houses in this area are alll about the same rent so how did they calculate a lower rate? nil response was the answer to that. Makes me sick..

Take care all

The governments states there is a minimum amount that a person can live on, and that amount is something that would just about cover my electric bill. My husband is self employed, working for a pittance really. We live in a low waged area, he has to lower his prices to get the work. He is a panel beater/sprayer. Winter months are terrible, he can go weeks without earning anything but still goes to work just in case a job comes in. He drives round garages looking for work.

I feel sick worrying about all this.

Like you speedqueen, I have grand children that keep me here, I wouldnt be here if it wasnt for them, but what use am I going to be to them when I am worried sick about having no money.

The letter about the rooms came yesterday, I do have a spare room that my step son sleeps in when we have him, it is known as "his" room, but, we cant use that as a reason to have it.

Oh I am on a right downer

xx

im sorry your feeling this way and thats why me and my partner moved from a 2 bed house into a cramped tiny flat coz of these changes.we needed a 2 bed for when my kids come round and stay and yet i got a letter today saying i have to pay back 98.00 quid coz we didnt report changes sooner.i dunno where im meant to get this money from dont have it.

will prob have to sell or borrow the money to pay them back so no how your feeling.

i have a court order saying i have 50/50 access to my kids yet they wont help.so now have one bed tiny flat ex wont let them come round it does make you very angry in deed.

i dunno wot is going to happen to us scary ..x

this government is pure evil, they means test us all and because fnd doesn't fit nicely with the medical

profession we don't get the benefits we really are entitled to,I am in pain daily and have difficulty when

trying to walk, though I use a walking stick. I recently had a relaspse with stroke like symptoms, though I

was lucky enough to have visited my ex wife, she and my son helped me to the toilet as my left side was

shot, and face numb, she pleaded with me to go to Aand E, I mumbled no,because I didn't want to go

through the same process as I did last December for the doctors to say its only migraine or functional

which they couldn't diagnose anyway, found out after 6 months of fatigue, pain, immobility and sheer

worry, after finally seeing the neurologist, anyway enough about me,we all need to stick together inorder

to see any real change in attitude towards this terrible disorder which has a lotfledf of medical staff

baffled and the government laughing at our exspense, peace and love to all of you.
