My lovely physiotherapist has refered me for accupuncture on both my knees which have a constant burning pain and also a severe throbbing and in the past 6 weeks has reduced my mobility by 30%. Has anyone else tried this and what are the results please?Am feeling very nervous! x

I've had acupuncture a few times ... it was totally painless, it certainly did no harm but it is difficult for me to tell how much good it did as it was done in conjunction with othr treatments. Give it a go - who knows how sucessful it might be?

Hi Charlii. Don't be nervous. I've had acupuncture several times. First time was from my GP for a trapped nerve in my elbow. It was an amazing experience, even though I ended up having surgery eventually. Then when I was diagnosed (wrongly? ) with ME /CFS in 2001, acupuncture got me back to work after 14 months on the sick. I last had a course of it in 2009, which unfortunately didn't do as much good as i'd hoped, but was at least relaxing. It's easy to focus on the needles, and get anxious, but it really is a relaxing experience, good at reducing pain, often with other benefits too! Try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Let us know how you get on. xx

Hi

Natural to be nervous especially if you are needle phoebic like me lol. I have had two sessions and have paid for a further 5. I hate needles, however I recognise the benefits that accupuncture cann offer and so started the course after much deliberation. The needles are not wide, and in general you dont even feel them. I looked like mrs pin head as I had them all over my body but could not actually see them as I was lying down. She showed me afterwards as I asked. Despite them being in my head, neck, elbows, hands, stomach, knees, legs and feet I only felt the ones in my feet. I did feel a slight tingling and could tell (being an energy practitioner) that the needles DID clear away what was a blocked energy path. After rising after first two treatments I got the feeling (usefull sensation not pain) back in my right knee, shortly followed by my left. It does help some, and I do hope you get less nervous about it. With alot of conditions a good practitioner can do some wonders.

Take care warm thoughts NN :)
