Occupational health visit- what to expect?

I have asked my housing association about the possibility of getting a walk in bath or shower, they have said they will provide one but I need an assesment from occupational health? Who are they? how would I get an assesment and what does an assesment entail? Has anyone had one of these assesments?

Hi its an assessment by an Occupational therapist. If you contact social services they will put you in touch. this OT then comes to your home and assess' your needs and makes her recomendation. I got a grab rail in my toilet a second hand rail on the stairs and I have been approved for a wet room but am still waiting for that to happen.. The wet room is means tested but as long as you have less than £16 thousand in the bank it is free. Thats how it is in my local authority anyway. Hope you get sorted out with what you need to make your life better.

Yeah I agree, mine was amazing. I got a wash/dry toilet, a deeper bigger bath with bath lift. Extra rails in my house, 2 steps by back door as it was rather high, and a lean on stool thing for my kitchen. They are wonderful. good luck with yours x

I have a wet room, and have asked for something to raise the toilet I am waiting for that. The lady that came was very helpful and was actually on my side. Something that is not usual with fibro lol. It didnt cost me a penny either

HI guys,

do you have to be in a council house to get help with a walk in shower or a wet room ?, im in my own house and need one badly as im struggling with a plastic seat over the bath at the moment but my shower screen wont close so i wet the floor through every time i have a shower, and im really struggling getting my legs over the bath etc, then im struggling to clean the floor up and its ruining my bath panel because its getting wet al the time.

when my occupational health lady came to do my assesment she said i would have to manage this way!! i did get rails on stairs and perching stool etc but no mention of a wet room?

thanks, Amanda xx

Thanks for all your replies and good wishes, I will let you all know how I go on. I also wanted to ask as Amanda has, does it make a difference that I am a housing association tenant and that the HA will be putting the shower/bath in as apposed to being a council tennant?
