My skin is getting worse - I have a scaly itch rash on my hands and one arm - one GP said eczema, the other ringworm and both ointments have not got rid of it. The skin on my face is very flaky and dry, has anyone any advice please?

Dry Skin and Rash?
I have had dry skin and rashes on my hands for years and they were clearing up a couple of months ago and now have gone bacl to be dry and flakey. I dont know why it happens as i am very careful and use the same stuff, like, shampoo, soap, washing powder and liquid.
I know i am allergic to cobalt but they doctors have give up on me now lol.
hugs, kel xxxx
My advice would be to ask your doctor to refer you to a skin specialist if he doesn't have the answer to the problem as they will have more expertise than he has and may be able to sort something out for you. It does even sound more like psoriasis to me but without being seen by a specialist it is going to be a long shot just trying things intermittently,. I would suggest that if you are finding you have any sensitivities to soaps that you use Aqueous to wash with as that can be used on the skin as a moisturiser and also added to water or your skin and washed off with plain water instead of soap based products but do discuss it with your gp before trying it. I used to suffer terrible for years with eczema on my hands in particular where my hands would be so itchy and sore and the skin used to end up virtually non-existent between my fingers, Nights would be spent covered in creams and wearing cotton gloves to stop the dreadful itching which of course made the whole situation worse. It used to also give me small patches of it on various parts of my body intermittently and still does but not enough to worry about but the hands just cleared up all of a sudden when I was in my 30's and has never really come back again. Good luck with getting it sorted out as it is awful not knowing what is causing it. love and hugs to you from Suzy xx
Hey Reflections
I'm sorry to hear about the skin issues. I have really sensitive skin too and skin conditions diagnosed. I had a patch test/allergy test done when i was younger and found I was allergic to everything on it! So I was told to avoid various things including dust, perfume, various chemicals, (I was given a list...these include the chemicals found in nearly all common skin care products). Perhaps you could ask for a referral to a dermatologist and ask for a skin/patch test to find out what you are allergic to?
If the patch tests aren't available any more perhaps try one or two weeks at a time of eliminating common allergens eg peanuts, nuts, shellfish, eggs, citrus fruit, shellfish, dust (exposure to others hoovering/dusting), perfume, CLCs and CFCs in skincare products and all shower gels etc.
I also find that my skin issues flare up as a result of stress, perfumed products sprayed around the home/car eg air fresheners. I requested other family members to stop using things that aggravate my skin around the home and it helped...eg switch from strong cleaning products to simple things like dettol. If you find out from your patch test that you are allergic to dust or if you suspect you are allergic to dust mites try getting other family members to do the hoovering when you are not around if possible or in the other rooms, and try using things like protective hypoallergenic mattress covers on the bed to keep out dust mites. Sometimes sensitive skin can cope with tiny quantities of certain foods but not high quantities of certain foods (eg spices like very hot chillies or unusualy hot spices, citrus). If you find out that you are allergic to any foods you could try eliminating those from your diet first completely and then gradually eventually introducing those back in in tiny quantities to see if they bring a reaction in your skin and then only eat them in small quantities if your skin can tolerate them. I also find wearing really high fragrance free SPF all year round is helpful for me.
If you are still looking for a face cream that doesn't cause horrid red flareups I know it really depends on the individual and depends on the time of year sometimes for the individual. I've tried absolutely loads of fragrance free versions but the only ones that seemed to work a bit were avene for peu intolerent (from boots)/body shop aloe range (fragrance free)/ & the clinique yellow lotion.
I'm basically allergic to a lot of things but I found that by eliminating a lot of things from my life I managed to calm my skin down a lot compared to how it used to be.
Good luck and hope the info is a bit helpful. Hugs xx
Thank you everyone for your responses - it's horrible to have a skin complaint isn't it and it's always there - drives me nuts and I've never had skin complaints before - fortunately my GP has referred me to a dermatologist and I will definately ask for a skin patch (now I know) to see if I am allergic and also may try the peu intolerant (if it's inexpensive).
