Hi - I asked my GP about changing from Gabapentin - that I have been on for about 10 years for myelopathic pain caused by a spinal bleed. He said more people tolerate Gabapentin for long periods as compared to Pregabalin. I just wondered what others experiences have been on pregabalin?
what are the side effects of Pregabal... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
what are the side effects of Pregabalin v Gabapentin
Hello
Pregabalin was brought in as a more potent sucessor to Gabapentin
Pregabalin takes a few weeks to get going but once it get's into your system properly and your body's adjusted to it it's very effective at combating anxiety, maybe even more so than a benzo's? certainly long term I would think anyway. It is also
felt that gabapentin is easer to tolerate than Pregabalin
I have never taken either myself as I dont want the weight gain
so I tend to control mine with tramadol which does not work very
well but I dont expect I am in as much pain as you are.
I have been told that you dont need such a high doze of pregabalin as you to gabapentin, but I am not a medical expert so I dont know.

I take gabapentin, I have been taking it for 2 1/2 years. I have not put on any noticeable weight only a couple of pounds.
The pain relief is worth it.
Hia there, i take pre gabalin (lyrica) and that has been a life saver for me, however side affects, weight gain and sweet tooth which i am not lol i am savoury! also the symptoms can happen too.
Neurontin for me made me ill all the time i had to lay up and with my job i cannot afford not to run it and be off. You MUST if pre gabalin chance though it does take time ! i been on it for hmm 6 months now and my hands started to feel better, although when i have flare ups like the past couple of days nothing helps!!! and just suffer!
Hope this helps and everyone on here is brilliant and i thank this site for allowing me in and for the responses and the help that i have had i am so appreciative. I hope i can stay and hope can gather more friends xxxxxxx
Hiya Susie, i used to take gapapentin the max dose, there was no relief for me on it, so i got changed to pregabalin which was a lot better although im no pain free it has eased of with the help of the rest of my pain killers. anne xx
Hi i am on Gabapentin. Im on 1200mg only been on it since dec 2011. Have had it upped slowly, but im not sure its doing much for the pain. xx
thanks all - it's so useful to hear from real people who actually have fms as the GP's can't possibly empathise like everyone on this site. xx
i have been told by my consultant that pregabalin is better for fibro than gabapenctin. I was told by my old gp that he did not want me to take pregabalin as gabapenctin was the same. when i investigated by asking my friend who is a pharmacist, its because of the price of pregabalin, drs are reluctant to prescribe it as they have restrictions on there medicine management finances versus health again.
I have been on Pregabalin for about 4 months now and I have muscle weakness as well as tremours. I will say that it controls the pain very well but the side effects needs some managing.
