I am currently on 15mg of Mirtazapine for anxiety which I take at night.I am now aware that it is addictive and although I've only been on it for 4 weeks, and will need to stay on it for a while.
Can I ask, if anyone on here has tapered of 15mg , if so, how long did it take and understanding we are all different, any withdrawal symptoms they have experienced. Thank you

Just because a medication *can* be addictive does not mean that you will become addictedIve been on 45mg Mirtazapine for 10+ years now with no issues. I did try coming off them a few years ago (Dr thought they might have been causing stomach issues) - cut down with no major issues then decided to stay on them as I realised they were helping my fibromyalgia pain
Almost all medications like this cause dependence as your body becomes used to it - SSRIs do too. It’s physical dependence and you might have withdrawal symptoms, but I wouldn’t call it addiction (having been an addict with several bouts of medical treatment required to overcome it) - you’re unlikely to crave it or want more than your prescribed dose.
I was on 30mg and felt it wasn’t doing anything but making me hungry after about a year and got to a stage where I was forgetting to take it for days so just stopped altogether during lockdown with no side effects or withdrawal whatsoever.
I was on that for 15yrs it definitely helped me and was easier than I thought to wean off , I was talked into coming off it & using amitriptyline which is very good but i understand it has long term issues too 🙄 I try and keep all meds to a minimum if i can as i think it all has a knock on affect along the line , if it works for you don’t be worried about it , probably not kicked in just yet , good luck ☺️
Thank you, not really kicked in yet. But like you, I have always kept medication to the very limit, however, the pain I'm going through now, unfortunately triggered my anxiety and have had to go back on my anxiety medication, which has also not yet kicked in. I tried amitriptyline as well, but I could not get on with it Thank you.
I had been on 15mg for 3 years for anxiety & insomnia until 2 years ago when I decided to taper off because of weight gain. I tapered slowly down then stopped under doctor's recommendations but after 6 months the anxiety & insomnia returned. I have now been on 7.5mg for a year and I am fine. That dose is obviously enough for me & I sleep well. I have cfs/me & fibromyalgia.
hi there I currently take mitrazipine 45mg was on 30mg for a year and recently been increased due do crippling anxiety. Also have fibromyalgia and depression. The sedative effect of this medication will stop once your body is used to it. I thought last year I was better and came off the 30mg for 9 months I tapered from 30mg to 15mg over 2 weeks no withdrawal then went from 15 to nothing over 2 weeks and I still didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms. But unfortunately my anxiety was back and crippling me to the point I couldn’t leave the house so I made the decision to go back on this and have worked my back to 45mg and can now say I’m stable. Good luck when you decide to taper off when the time is right for you.
