Could unhealed piercings be a factor in not recovering?

Hello! A bit of a random question, but I have my cheeks pierced, I think they've been in about 5-6 years now. I've had fibro for 2 years. My cheek piercings have never properly fully healed, which is quite normal with these types, and I love them, so I've been happy to maintain caring for them.

However, since having fibro, I've recently started wondering if actually they could be doing me more harm than good? I absolutely adore them, but if taking them out and getting fully healed might help in any way, I'll take 'em right now😅

Not sure if anyone can help, but any response will be appreciated! Sending loads of hugs and positive vibes🫂

Hello ,it took me courage too have my ears pierced twice as I am sensitive too pain, I do take my earrings out and clean every so often which I am guessing you are already doing with your cheeks , I think it’s a personal thing that you like your cheeks pierced and if there are no major problems and your keeping them clean you can carry on , the only thing I did pick up in your post that theve never really healed so might be worth getting some advice on that at your doctors surgery ie the practice nurse if doctors are busy. I've got a couple of piercings, belly, eyebrow, ears etc. The cartilage ones took two years to finally settle but I haven't noticed any relationship with them and my fibromyalgia. I do have ADHD though which makes me fixate on pain and difficult to take my mind off, but the fibromyalgia stays the same.

Are you on any anti inflamitories? When I had a hip replacement I had to stop taking them for a month before and after the op to let my skin heal.

Having something your body is constantly having to try and heal won’t be helping, your body is having a reaction to a foreign object and trying to get rid of it - unless they’re really bad though it’s probably not a massive strain if you’re happy to keep caring for them. If they haven’t healed in the first couple of years, they likely never will - as you know already, that’s common, cheeks often just don’t, they’re very difficult piercings to keep. You could try asking an acupuncturist as they might be interfering with the meridians that connect to other parts of the body. Some might cause negative reactions but others might be positive and helpful and it is possible to have stick on studs with tiny magnets instead.

Hi

Wouldn't think personally that any kind of body piercing would trigger fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is usually caused through bone damage, physical human body damage or a serious underlying condition or tremendous trauma in itself etc.

I find that fibromyalgia in the physical goes beyond pain hell itself.

I have noticed personally that past injuries are effecting me now, even accidents that happened years ago are starting to hurt more.

It's totally upto a individual if they want to remove piercings from there.

Have you tried removing them for let's say 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference at all ?

Off the topic as such but I have spoke to people who have fibromyalgia and then had tattoos done & are now regretting it as it has made them worse with pain.

Fibromyalgia is not fussy on where it attacks the body at anytime.

Kindest of regards
