Hi all,

I post on here a while ago saying that I had been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and that I hadn't really been told much about what it is. I have been doing reading about in online and I am confused by what I'm reading. The one thing that keeps coming up is that fibromyalgia is not a inflammatory condition, but my muscles are definitely inflamed. They are swollen and hot to the touch. Is this something any of you have experienced with fibromyalgia/is this normal? I am wondering if I have been misdiagnosed. Thanks.

Kat

My muscles are burning right now in the middle of a flare-up. What I understand is that the central nervous system goes a bit haywire so your body does weird stuff and the brain misinterprets or doesn't know how to handle pain responses.

Have they ruled anything else out?

Sorry to hear your suffering. I was told its to do with the sheath that covers your muscles most medical professionals seam to think that's all fibro is your myelin sheath but as you will find it's much more than that and yes our nervous system goes haywire. I've had cognitive problems most of this year up early this morning due to the cold getting to my bones and muscles. Warmth on my body tends to relieve some discomfort it's all about finding what works for you. But it's not nice when you're body constantly feels like you have flu bruised and aching.

listen to the interview with Kirsty Young on this morning’s radio 4 Today programme - her fibromyalgia story is my story - it is a ‘must’ listen! Late in programme there will be interview with doctor re treatment of chronic pain.

I experience this almost on a daily basis in my upper legs mainly. It's a definite symptom of Fibromyalgia but they haven't yet fully understood it in the medical field. It definitely causes muscle stiffness, burning and feeling like they are inflammed but they say it's the brain sending mixed messages and our bodies fight it in different ways as the brain doesn't fully understand what signals need to be functioned. Something like that anyway but dunt take that as verbatim, that's just how I understood it. You should find some studies online about arguments that it's a rheumatology condition or a brain condition.

All I can say is you're not going mad, I think we all get the same symptoms when it comes to our muscles feeling inflammed.

Hope you feel more settled soon x
