Weird as it sounds, you're probably not eating enough! To get a fire roaring (your metabolism in this case) you have to load it up with fuel. This doesn't mean suddenly going from nothing to too much, but increasing the right kinds of food to get your metabolism used to it. And then the exercise will work. But it is a complex topic, and perhaps you could ask your doctor to refer you to a dietician for specialist support.

I have a problem with my weight at the moment and ive just wondered if it could be the steriod injections i have, i think if the tablets or pain injections are the reason for some of us to put on weight then we wont lose it unless we come off the tablets and we all know if we stop them we wont be able to even move so its a catch 22 :( x

hi thank you for your comment. yeah i get the feeling its catch 22 also, i was wondering if the meds i am on were maybe not helping with my weight.

thanks Ellie

Hello there Ellie, thank you for your message.

It sounds to me as though you aren't eating nearly enough my dear to keep yourself going. I would personally suggest that you pop along to discuss this with your GP because if you are putting on weight in spite of eating virtually nothing, then something is causing this and it needs to be checked out and treated.

I would imagine your GP might refer you to a Dietician so they can advise you on what you should be eating to help you feel better. Hopefully once you have seen your GP and you are having the right treatment and eating properly you will feel better.

Sometimes we need a bit of help and support over our eating habits and support and understanding that it isn't actually about eating less and losing weight, it's about eating enough to keep us healthy and being able to lose weight gradually if we need to lose a few pounds. We might need medical supervision with this. Perhaps this might be worth discussing with your GP too.

I hope this is helpful, please know that we are here for you and will do all we can to help and support you along the way Ellie.

Take care and please let us know how you get on.

Thanks Lib, i try talking to my GP about it his answer as normal is "its your fibro".

i have spoken to a dieticion before told me to cut out the butter on the one slice of toast i had that week and to cut out the sugar i have in my tea and coffee.sail i was living on somewhere around 500 - 600 cal a day then told me there was nothing she could do for me.

Thanks for your reply.

I honestly think that's dreadful Ellie, that is no help or support at all for you. Have you tried seeing another GP at your practice, you are entitled to a second opinion and hopefully by seeing another Doctor you would be understood better and given more appropriate help and support.

It cannot be right to suggest that by eating 500 calories a day when you are poorly anyway, that this is sufficient.

Please let us know how you get on my dear. We are always here for you.

I find when I am following a healthy eating plan I eat lots more than when I'm not - but of the right stuff

I did weight watchers for a couple of months last year, but got discouraged when after 2 months, I was essentially the same weight, eith only very small fluctuations - despite sticking to the plan.

My Dr recommended some tablets that work on fat absorbtion - essentially helping you lose twice the weight you would with healthy eating alone. Because I have a very low level of activity, this seems like a good prospect to me.

I am yet to start them - so don't have first hand knowledge just yet, but have heard good things

Good luck on your journey :-)

Hi thanks for your reply. well done on your weight loss. i went to a slimming world on monday night to be honest it scared me to death by the time i got home i had to go to bed, just the thought of having to eat that amount of food and every time they said you can eat loads of this and that oh god . i did manage a sandwich yesterday but nothing so far today .. i really do not know what to do.

hello and thanks to everyone for your replys. i really do not know what to do, i stopped eating when i went to high school when some one said i was fat, and that was it i just stopped eating lived on diet coke and coffee for about 2/3 years lost loads of weight started walking miles everyday. but that was 26/27 years ago and now it does not make any diffrence what i try the only thing that makes any weight come off is really hard workout and i cant do that any more even with the pain meds i am on theres no way i could start to move anything like i would need to. it takes me all my time just to go to the supermarket or take the dog for a walk and then i end up in bed for the rest of the day. . im sorry i know this sound like self pity and i suppose it is and like most people if we could turn the clocks back and do things diffrent we would but i cant, so i am stuck with this god awful fibro and evrything that goes with it. gentle hugs to all xxxx ellie

When you don't eat enough food to sustain your weight but when you don't eat enough your body turns what you eat into fat. Our you on medication as mine makes me put on weight on.

Not sure if this helps but I am for ever on diets and slimming pills with no effects. So I'm battling with food issues because i feel fat with all my medication.

This site is brilliant I feel safe posting things on it and getting things off your chest. People really care and help and support is at hand. So thanks all for your support and honesty
