Hi Petrina, an excellent question and you will probably get a different answer from everyone (of which I'm interested in what these are too!). At the moment I take gritted teeth and life style adjustments, well I say adjustments but it's more restrictions- ie I don't take any medication. I've tried Duloxetine and amitriptyline as well as the usual paracetamol, nurofen, anti inflammatory etc but they either don't work or I can't tolerate the side affects. At some point I will hit my wall again and go seek another medical opinion and idea but right now I just don't have the energy physically, mentally or emotionally 🤷. My heat mat is my life line at the mo. Best of luck in your quest, I'm guessing you're at your wall looking for the next thing to try? x
I am prescribed co-codamol for a back issue and fibro pain, and my GP suggested duloxitine but I ended up on quetiapine instead. Then also diagnosed with ADHD and the medication for that (methyphenidate, known most commonly as Ritalin) had the triple effect of appetite suppression, not being allowed to drink alcohol, AND it increases the effects of narcotic painkillers, so I’ve lost over 4 stone and the co-codamol actually takes pain away now and I’m mostly pain-free through the day unless I over-do it.
I'm in the queue for ADHD assessment, but it's 4 years long. I could do with any treatment that helps with weightloss and the symptoms of ADHD. Did you have to go through the assessment process? Or was your GP able to diagnose you? And are there any negative side effects of Ritalin?
No, a GP can’t diagnose it, you have to have an assessment with a specialist. The wait in my area was around the same, but they wouldn’t even put me on the waiting list, as without ever having spoken to me, the ADHD clinic decided that I wasn’t affected enough to be diagnosed and/or had other ailments that explained the symptoms - I have a looooong psychiatric history, funnily enough which is all explained by the ADHD diagnosis and the effect it has had on me throughout my life (I’m 39) - so I paid privately through MyPace for both the assessment and the titration and I’m still paying for private prescriptions and the meds, but it has turned my life around so well worth it for me.
There’s various meds for it, both stimulant and non-stimulant - I found it increases my anxiety, and gives me a really dry mouth, but I’m willing to put up with that. It can also raise your heart rate and blood pressure so not suitable for everyone if that happens.
Hi there
I was put on medication I think it’s the usual story to just hand out pills but I had so many side effects that I chose to go on an eating plan. I cut out sugar, dairy and gluten for over a month and found out some fantastic results. I gradually introduced the said foods and found it was sugar was causing the main problem. I won’t say it gets rid of it entirely but I have less flare ups and I now take CBD oil to help me sleep better which had definitely helped my mood to carry on through the day. I also went back on HRT as doctors had taken it off me but I heard that it helps with inflammation and so far the results are fantastic. I suppose we are all different. It doesn’t help that I have osteoarthritis badly in my knees and ankles as well. The cutting out of sugar was a hard one but I know how it’s improved my pain with a plus that it’s helped me shift the stubborn fat that I was finding it so hard to shift in my later years.
I am newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Before my diagnosis I tried different medication for neuralgia the side effects I couldn't cope with and so i told my doctor am not taking them anymore .
I have suffered the pain and flare ups for years untill I hit a point of I can't do this anymore .
I am now waiting for bloods then back to doctors to talk about pain management
Hi, my drs haven’t (and apparently don’t) prescribe medication for fibro. I’m on a very low dose of pregabalin for a pre existing nerve condition. But other than that lifestyle changes. My drs did refer me to a sleep CBT online course which was very helpful actually, so I am sleeping a lot better which in itself helps me. Other than that I’m trying hard to adjust my eating. I’ve cut out alcohol as I found I’ve an intolerance to it now, trying hard to cut down on sugar (most difficult as I’ve such a sweet tooth and my other half works in a bakery!), I’m caffeine free drink wise. I’ve cut out processed foods and moved to whole grain bread, pasta etc. I’ve started Qigong, a form of Tai Chi for health. I found that very meditative too. When I’m able to I swim and walk. I read a lot more, I cross stitch and do suduko - my sit down focus for rest.
