The little finger and ring finger can be ulnar nerve/ cubital tunnel amongst other things. I lost sensation in mine 20+ years ago and have small fibre neuropathy as well as fibro. Same pattern on feet - outer edges and two outer toes worse than rest of foot although feet and legs up to knees plus hands and arms involved. But carpal/cubital can be contributed to by low vit D, calcium, B vitamins.
Thank you,yes im aware of the problem with the little finger as I have suffered with it on a few occasions. That was the reason I stated carpel tunnel did not effect that particular finger. But thank you again for your reply.
Yes, but mine is not fibro related. It's from osteoarthritis in my neck which has affected the nerves in my arm. It is worse if I lean on my elbow. May be worth a check with your GP as we are all too quick to blame fibro for every ache and pain. Hope you get it sorted soon.
Thanks both, wasn't really blaming fibre TBF.Thought it was more likely either carpal tunnel or arthritis related - I do tend to have painful swollen knuckles from time to time!I
Also i know there's arthritis in the family tree 😖
Another thing i considered was trapped or pinched nerve in my shoulder.
Was hoping it would just go away as can't face trying to book yet another GP appointment.
I have tingling pain in all my fingers and toes etc etc which is noted as fibromyalgia (as they can't find anything specific to relate it to; I originally suspected arthritis, there's a lot in my family, but told it's not)
There are so many things which it could be and which might not have been looked at properly - blood sugar for one, but I'd be thinking B12 and folate most likely. Are you vegan/vegetarian or on any B12/folate depleting medications (metformin, PPI, methotrexate) or had any nitrous oxide use? A serum B12 and folate test should have been done but will be insufficient alone to rule out a deficiency (may rule one in though). Has anyone tested you for small fibre neuropathy? About half of those with fibro have it, I think (me included).
Hi, I take B12 as it helps with mouth upsets and other aspects , I don’t know about the others , I’m also always anemic even though I take iron supplements etc .
Never heard of the other bits will read up and not heard of small fibre neuropathy. Another to look up 👍
I know my blood sugars were tested for diabetes etc and seemed fine previously.
…I’m a meat eater and only take esomeprosole (for stomach acid and may impact absorption of vitamins so I take at night) and a very low dose of pregabalin for fibro pain .
Will look into any option which may help , as fibro I see as they don’t know what the issue is diagnoses.
Depending on your age(!) you may not be able to get any benefit from eating meat in relation to B12, as over age 50ish we do not have the ability to break down and metabolise. If you have been on the PPI for a while and your level wasn't good (which the B12 helping mouth issues would suggest) then it may have dropped you below a healthy level. Bear in mind that you can have a cellular deficiency at any serum level, and supplementing will make your blood look good but may not be enough to repair nerve damage. Doctors often think that B12 in blood equals B12 in cells doing its job, which is not the case. Iron anaemia is only one form, you may be folate or B12 anaemic or one of many other forms. You may have difficulty with a diagnosis as the supplement will have skewed the results. Do you have any tests pre-supplementing? You could ask for an active b12 test (holotc) although it may also have been affected by the oral B12. Best others might be homocysteine and MMA (methylmalonic acid) which are often raised in cellular deficiency but not always. NHS can do but rarely do. B12 and folate metabolism is terribly complex and not yet fully understood (by anyone). Ever been checked for coeliac or are you already gluten free.
There are a number of conditions that can cause these symptoms. Personally I would speak to my GP to eliminate causes such as arthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome etc before thinking of fibromyalgia.
Hii, that sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. I have this in both hands, moderate in left and severe in right. Wearing a wrist splint for bed is meant to help but I don't find it does. I'm waiting for the operation to correct this. Unfortunately, I also had de quervains in my right thumb/wrist which was worse and meant I couldn't even butter bread or cut up my own food Had a steroid injection and 100% better in just 24 hours. I'd have it checked as it can get worse if not trested and you could end up needing the op, good luck xx
