Oh poop again this ruddy falling lark GGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, 2 steps up on the corner of stairs, I felt myself going to my right, Why I keep thinking I can stop I don't know,

Hubby had taken something to the car and I took out the shelving and my collection of Mdina glasses, Not impressed! I have a cracking bruise on half of my back and down my left side and leg,

I was so frightened he would come in and find me in a head with all that glass, but I just couldn't get up, I found it very odd that I didn't feel any pain at that moment, WOW,

Very strange as I also had the best night sleep I've had in years, A whole 6 hrs of proper sleep? When I woke up I felt like I'd been run over by a bus, Hubby looking after me again, Bless him, He called the doctors and asked the receptionist to let my doctor know that I've fallen again, As this is the 5th time since November!

I just don't know what else I can do???

At long last the o.t has been in contact, they left a message for us to call back, we did and it went straight onto voice mail, It's been so long, fingers crossed they can help with the bathroom and front door,

I stumble and lurch a lot ( crab walking I call It)my GP has referred me to physio to see if it’s my gait or numbness in feet. I have RA as well and this causes feet not to cope well with floors and changing textures. My arms are always covered in bruises and blood spots as I whack walls as I stumble 🥰

Sorry to sound like a stuck record but can I ask you about vit B12 too? Very common with Sjogren's to be deficient, and also with other autoimmunity it may be Pernicious Anaemia (the autoimmune form of B12D). Testing is very poor/flawed so it may have been missed, but a deficiency is likely. You mention metformin, which reduces your ability to absorb. Autoimmunity affects parietal cells so you end up with less stomach acid (then can't digest and get reflux etc) and less intrinsic factor, affecting B12 (plus iron, calcium and generally making it hard to get nutrients out of your food). Suggest a full set of tests as per my other post! I'm guessing as you are on methotrexate (which depletes folate which is essential for working with B12) you might be on folinic acid. The methotrexate works by depleting folate, but the folinic is supposed to prevent deficiency without stopping it working, as I understand it. I got rid of vertigo and stopped bouncing off the walls when I added methyltetrahydrofolate (another form of folate) to my B12 supplements. Cheers

I am due checks on my B12 as been low before and now taking Metformin which can strip the body of the stuff too so all due to be sorted ñ🥰

That is good news. Did you find out why it was low before? Unless you had been vegan and now aren't, or had some other temporary deficiency it is unusual for it not to need at least regular oral/sublingual supplements and checking. Please don't accept an 'in range' serum B12 alone as proof of no deficiency, as it shows no such thing. Even the whole panel I listed can be 'normal' and you still have a functional/cellular deficiency as the genetics is complex and not yet fully understood. You can do a private PA set or just a homocysteine if needed.

on Baritcitnib as had anaphylactic reaction to Methotrexate

I normally take B12 high potency but there has been a lot going on with meds and stuff so we are checking as I got out of doing the past 2 months. I am very lucky have a very supportive GP practice who keep an eye on me

Even high dose oral may not be enough for you, and supplementing will skew the results of the tests. At least if you have been off them for 2 months it may show something, but they need to be looking at whether you can actually absorb and why you were low in the first place. Ask them to check homocysteine, which may still show high if you are not absorbing well.

sounds awful, hope you’re ok. My sister falls a lot, she has several issues but it has been linked to her diagnosis of FND. Take care.

Oh sweetie you poor thing. I hope occupational therapist s assessment goes well. I'm currently waiting for them to contact me for similar reasons. You deserve all the help they can give you.

I fell in December. Was in hospital for 4 days. They wanted to keep me longer but the psychiatrist said the ward was bad for me mentally.. So home I went.

Don't stop ringing o.t. Every day until they contact you.

Good luck with everything.

You have a gem of a hubby.

My best friend is the same but can't pick me up.

Hugs and best wishes xxx

Hi, please tell me that you are getting vit B12 injections or at least that they are giving you proper testing? Looks like you are on levo, I think you mentioned a PPI of some kind, you have fibro and you are falling over. The PPI will reduce your ability to absorb B12, the thyroiditis could be caused by low B12 (and likely to affect parietal cells so also could cause low B12) - so I think it would be a good one to check. I know you've talked about dentistry - what kind of anaesthesia, any nitrous oxide (gas and air), as that can inactivate a significant percentage of your active B12 - serum B12 result includes active and inactive parts, so can look great except that most you can't use. Tests that would be useful (assuming you aren't already on B12 or folate/folic or B complex, which will confuse matters a little) are serum B12, serum folate, active B12 (holotc), homocysteine, MMA (methylmalonic acid) and if possible anti gastric parietal cell antibodies, anti intrinsic factor antibodies and serum gastrin, plus a full blood count (look at MCV and RDW over time).

Best wishes

Thank you Bookish for your info,The hospital is put aside for the time being,(not chuffed) but it's not safe at the moment with my lungs, (Still waiting for results) I have spoke with my dentist, If I have not got an appointment back at the hospital, she will remove the last 2 teeth and see about cutting the gums herself. I didn't want it this way because no matter how much anestatic (sorry I cant spell) she puts in I still feel every pinch, tug and nerve ending pain there is to be felt, So I expect she will have to put her radio on full blast so as not to scare her other patients

bookish profile image
bookish in reply toDebsdelight72

Sorry about the hospital delay. Maybe in the meantime your GP can at least test serum B12 and folate, active B12 if at all possible (Medichecks do at home testing, so you can do your own if needed). Then make sure you ask dentist if you have had nitrous oxidebefore or if they give you nitrous this time. If B12 is low, do not have nitrous, please.
