Hi I’m of pensionable age and have just realised that I may be able to claim Attendqnce Allowance as I need a lot of help from my husband (who is an absolute diamond) with bathing, hair washing etc. I’ve had Fibro for many years along with cervical and lumbar spine issues and we’ve just sort of coped! Has anyone been successful claiming this allowance please? Hope you’re all having as good a day as possible. Thanks

Attendance Allowance??
My mum just has been awarded this as my dad is now her carer. Mum is nearly 70 and has FND which has unfortunately altered her life so much.
This is from gov.uk
Re ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE ELIGIBILITY
You can get Attendance Allowance if you’ve reached State Pension age and the following apply (unless you might have 12 months or less to live):
you have a physical disability (including sensory disability, for example blindness), a mental disability (including learning difficulties), or both
your disability is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself or someone to supervise you, for your own or someone else’s safety
you have needed that help for at least 6 months
You must also:
be in Great Britain when you claim - there are some exceptions, such as members and family members of the armed forces
have been in Great Britain for at least 2 of the last 3 years (this does not apply if you’re a refugee or have humanitarian protection status)
be habitually resident in the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands
not be subject to immigration control (unless you’re a sponsored immigrant)
not get Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
I have fibro and have recently been awarded Attendence Allowance indefinitely. It has made an enormous difference to my life as I now also get pension credit etc. From what you say, you sound to be much more disabled than I am so I would encourage you to apply. If you do, I suggest you get some help to fill in the form (Citizens Advice, Welfare Rights dept). It's very long and the outcome seems to depend on how you reply and what you say rather than levels of need! Good luck, Linda
