Concrete foor

Good morning folks. I just wanted to share to see if I'm alone in this matter. When I sleep at night I like to lay on my side but I feel like I'm resting on a concrete floor. The bones that come into contact with the bed or resting on each other is sharp. I toss and turn all night and wake up with with all my hips ankles elbows all tender to touch for the day. Especially my hips. I'd be interested to see if others experience this. Keep smiling thru 😊

Hello,

I get the same problem, I find sleeping with a v shape pillow helps I have the middle of it under my head then the two side bits go down my side so when I’m on my side there is a pillow each side. I hope that makes sense!

Chipping in to say this, plus a system of strategically placed pillows worked for me…

A knee pillow might help too or just a normal pillow, takes the pressure off your hip. If you have a flatter pillow you could try it under your hip. Most of us could open a pillow shop with all the different makes, sizes etc ... usually have a pillow to suit every area 🫤

hi, I have found using a memory foam topper has been an absolute game changer for me. Needs to be a thick one though 3” at least, but it’s like sleeping on a cloud. Makes such a difference, only trouble is that you need extra depth fitted sheets to accommodate extra depth.

Hi, I too have the same problem, can lay about 10/15 mins before I have to turn onto my other side, then it's keep swapping all night, like yourself it feels like you're laying on a bed of concrete.

I do have a decent mattress topper, meant to be so good for aches and pains, also on top of this a quilted down topper, but makes no difference at all - you may have better luck - I've just bought a weighted blanket, which though lovely and cosy, still doesn't stop the tossing and turning. Hope you find refluef.

I sleep on my side hugging a pillow and make sure my neck isn't at an off angle. End of the pillow goes between my legs. It's worth a decent mattress as well if you can afford it. Go for softer. Firm mattress absolutely ruined me. Key is to support your body as much as you can. Hope that helps a bit.

Achypins profile image
Achypins in reply to Mark_Lyth

Hi Mark.. Yeah I hug my pillow but may consider the side hugging pillow sounds good as I normally just have the duvet between my knees to keep then from resting on each other. Great advice thank you 😊

kaylee4848 profile image
kaylee4848 in reply to Achypins

Oh trust me using a duvet will hurt more - same with a towel or blanket, they are not the same as a pillow, and if you can find a long memory foam pillow, even better, but those can be expensive.

Hi, I was constantly waking in pain and more so since recently being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hips. I've now invested in a bamboo mattress topper by Panda and also a pillow from the same company. Omg!, what a life changer( or sleep changer). I've not had them long but I now look forward to bedtime and a much better night's sleep.

I have the same that I got from Costco. It’s really comfortable, although I find it much to hot to sleep on. It feels like the heat radiates off it. I then decided to buy another new mattress, sleepeezee cool gel plus, but I still have the same problem with pain in my joints and muscles. ☹️

There's also a 30 night trial so if it isn't right for you it can be returned and also a 10 Yr guarantee. Hope this is useful

You can get sheets and pillow cases now that keep you cool all night. If you get too hot you just move to a different place on the sheet and it's cool again. We haven't tried the sheets yet but have the pillow cases and they're brilliant.... Might be worth a try. 😊

Jenonnet profile image
Jenonnet in reply to kaylee4848

Hi, yes I'm in the UK, but the sheets and pillowcases are from Amazon, so you should be able to get some in France.

I'm sorry but I don't have the make of them, as you can get all different ones. The latest ones I have are bamboo, but I've had other different ones in the past too.

Just search for them by putting in cooling sheets or pillowcases and it should bring lots of them up. Good luck, hope you find some that work for you. 😊

kaylee4848 profile image
kaylee4848 in reply to Jenonnet

Hi, thanks, I will look on Amazon.fr and see if I can get here, I think I have seen bamboo sheets but they didn't say anything about being cooling sheets. It is so hard to get anything here since Brexit from the UK.

Jenonnet profile image
Jenonnet in reply to kaylee4848

I thought Amazon shipped to many places, so you will hopefully be lucky. There are different bamboo items for different things, so I think you just have to make sure the ones you get are the cooling ones. There's other materials that do the same job besides the bamboo ones. Good hunting. 😊

Try and get one if it’s online that you have so long to return it without paying and some won’t take returns .I’ve got adjustable bed and needed new mattress tried all tthe shops I’m allergic to latex and memory foam .my sister gave me her mattress orthapedic and by shoulders back and headaches were murder .I got one online but the shop ordered it. For me I wanted firm but assistant said medium to firm it came second night I felt like a big marshmallow was smothering me far too soft I’d kept the cellophane on it and my mattress cover in. Cased I spilled tea I drink tea in bed .I’m returning it for firm one I had to pay £70.00 to return it and £50.00 because mattress was more expensive now I have to pay £35 .00 to get it uplifted by the men who empty rubbage bin and the mattress was £700.00 pounds there goes my £500.00 pounds from goverment for price rise but thank god or I would have had to rob a bank but it’s came in handy one shop wanted £1.200 just for the mattress but can’t wait as my back neck and shoulders is killing me as is my head .hope you get sorted but if online try and get one with free returns because my bed is electric adjustable ordinary mattress no use .

Yes! Note my diagnosis is Adult Onset Stills Disease which for me manifests as rheumatoid disease. I have a firm memory foam mattress that provides excellent support and reduces hip pain and stiffness. I didn’t get on with the memory foam pillows though and sleep on my best side hugging a feather pillow or face down completely flat with no pillows. The advent of gastric issues this year has made lying flat harder so I’m trying all different pillows, hollow fibre, duck down etc and have found a sheep skin one easiest so far.

I have hiatus hernia and have a lot of heartburn and reflux when lying down got an endosperm at hospital tthats when they said hiatus hernia I’ve to lose a bit of weight but I can’t lie on back it’s one side or tummy dr said to get blocks of wood put them at head of bed to raise me up and use two pillows I seen these blocks on Ames on there plastic and not expensive it stops food or water coming back may help they also said don’t lie down in bed for two or three hrs after heavy meal it does work. I also had a cough where food would come up and sometimes saliva that’s part of the stomach problem to I take emeprozole or gaviscon for heartburn but lifting bed up has helped as had extra pillow .trying to get a pillow that’s comfortable was a nightmare as well hope you get sorted.I also have sheepskin pillow I bout it in Benidorm on one of day trips that’s good gastric problems can be a nightmare to.

Hi. I too have the same issues with tossing and turning. I bought a good thick mattress topper and thought it would help, but unfortunately for me it isn't. I sleep on my side and have to put a thin pillow between my knees and also hug another pillow. Weird I know. I have the same problems sleeping. this is what I do depending whether on my side or on my back.

1. On my side: Don't lay with one leg on top of the other bend the top leg towards your chest so it lies li front of the bottm leg and place a pillow on top of the bottom leg on the knee joint and place your other leg on top. it keeps the weight off the bottom leg and the pillow supports the top leg more comfortably.

2. On my back: Lay on your back, and place a rolled up pillow under the knee or knees, (I do both with 2 pillows , my choice) It releaves the leg muscles under the backnof the leg and helps circulation. If you have swollen or sore legs elevate them a little higher, and this does wonders for that and circulation. I did this for about a week and it helped me no end. You will feel results after the first night.

The otgher thing is to not use your sleep time to sort problems you should do in the day, night is for sleeping, and say to your self I will sleep and then sort thatout first thing in the morning, deep slow breathing also helps.

let us know if this helps you.

Good morning . Yes I have that problem too it’s like lying on a bed of rocks and I also get it in my face so my ears and cheeks will hurt on whichever side I’m lying. I totally agree with the other comments about mattress toppers . I purchased a mattress with 3000 pocket springs which gives good support and a 3 inch memory foam topper which definitely helps and feels soft and comfortable . It doesn’t eliminate the pain but I’d say it makes it around 60% better so it’s worth investing in . I hope this helps and good luck

I can empathise with everyone who commented re sleep and pain. After many years of needing a new mattress and being scared to purchase a dud one I finally did the deed!! I was in so much pain I decided to try every mattress I could in shops locally and within a reasonable distance from home . Over the course of two weekends hubby and I lay on over 30mattresses 😎

I kept coming back to a Harrison Spinks 11000 pocket sprung . I have found it to be amazingly supportive and comfy , along with starting mirtazipine I am now no longer sleep deprived !! It means on the whole I am mentally more able to cope with the days of pain . One step forward meantime x

Just for your info if you're interested, Wowcher are doing a deal right now for renewable Emma mattresses at 60% off. We've just ordered one. As these are very good mattresses and have been awarded the best UK mattress for a few years by which?, that's an amazing deal. Unfortunately they don't take your old mattress away, but for the price they're selling the mattresses for I'll sort that out myself! 😊

kaylee4848 profile image
kaylee4848

haha First you made me cringe I thought you were saying, until I read it, that you slept on a concrete floor, my whole body was going into spasms thinking about that. I was DX'd with Fibro in the early 90s, did a bunch of research and then said to hell with it and decided to just live with it because all the meds were worse.

I have slept with a body pillow for years, it helps keep your back in place by having the pillow to keep your knee up and not pull on your back. But the body pillow allows you to have a nice soft pillow for the entire length of you. Of course the side you sleep on still has to take the brunt. I still, when I lay down and my shoulder touches the bed, have to look to see what hard thing has gotten into my bed because that really hurt. And of course there is nothing there. Just have to move around until that trigger point is in a better position.

My left side is the worst, I cannot lay on it at all and after all these years my right side is starting to object to the injustice. No idea what I will do if the right side becomes unable to take the pressure.

I finally had my left hip replaced a year ago, it did help a lot, but this hip has been hurting for 30 years and even this doc was hesitant after many tests saying it didn't look that bad - I said I cannot even grocery shop with worrying if I can make it back to the car. The difference afterwards WAS amazing................but I still can only lie on that side for 30 - 40 mins - the surface pain still feels like someone took a sledgehammer to my side and thigh a few days before and I am left with the horrible bruising - bruising that you cannot even touch.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but the pillow will help, Bed, Bath & Beyond sell them as do a lot of department stores. Also I found that a memory foam mattress was the best and anything with springs or even cords on the mattress top was awful. I hate to say but I can feel for the Princess and the Pea - because if there is even a wrinkle in the sheets etc. I can feel it.

Oof. Sleeping is SUCH an issue with fibro. I agree with the mattress topper — but if you are looking for a new mattress, a hybrid is what I have found to be the best for me. I try to start my night by sleeping on my back with a pillow under my knees, but I usually end up on my side with a hugger pillow and one between my knees. A good mattress doesn’t solve everything — but it does help. I stayed at a hotel recently and truly missed my own bed!

Hi Achypins, love your username lol.

As others have suggested I would also highly recommend a good mattress topper. They can be an absolute godsend for aches and pains, especially if your mattress has seen better days.

Just try to make sure you get a good quality one that is at least 3 inches thick for the best results. Also consider new pillows if you need them?….extra pillows always help to support your body, and a pillow between your knees is one of the best things you can use. And just like good head pillows it aligns your body much better, and helps give you an overall better support.

Good luck and hope you get sorted soon 🌷

Bit off topic …. My son uses a ‘weighted blanket’ to help him sleep. I haven’t seen it but think it’s a mesh thing that goes over the bedding and different “weights “ suit different needs. Not sure it’s useful for stiff, sore , swollen achey joints but perhaps worth a look.

dear fellow sufferer,

surprisingly I get that if I'm sleeping on a soft mattress, so I bought a fairly hard one [they come in different grades] but I also have a painful broken neck (school rugby in the '50s) and my wife has bought me an Orthopaedic Neck Support Pillow - this one is a Memory Foam - it's a sculptured Pillow for Neck and Shoulder

my wife has bought me a sculptured pillow with a Cervical depression for Neck Pain, it's also supposed to be an Anti Snore Pillow, [but of course, like all of us, I never snore] , these are sometimes called a Contour Pillow. I put this on top of a normal pillow and it lets me turn on my side, which I prefer just as you do; a contoured pillow costs about£35 to £45 Also I had to go into hospital recently and they didn't mind me bringing my own pillow. incidentally the medics were not sure whether I had got fibromyalgia or Lupus because the symptoms are almost identical
